Monzo offer a free bank account for under 16s, with controls set by their parent or guardian.

Kids get their own neon card and can see their money in the Monzo app. Parents or Guardians can keep an eye on the account, set spending limits and schedule pocket money.

Great first bank account for teenagers

My daughter has the Monzo Under 16s account and we’ve had a really positive experience with it. It was very easy to set up and the app is simple for her to use. She especially loves the pots feature, which is a great way to introduce saving habits and help her manage her money. Overall, it’s a great first bank account for teenagers. Great but frustrating restrictions

Great account but my 15yr old cant use it anywhere that has an alcohol licence. He plays darts but cant use it to buy food or drink at the darts club or pay entrance to a 5 a side pitch to play football as it also has a licence. Other than that its great but that does cause issues. Good to have the pots available for savings. Reviewed on: 6th March 2026
