I banked with NatWest for 30 years until five years ago when I changed to a different bank, followed by another two. With the benefit of hindsight I made a mistake moving from NatWest, I'm now back with them and confident they're the best banking option. I recently experienced raising a dispute through NatWest, and I have to say, the process has been incredibly complicated and frustrating. The process seems designed to confuse rather than assist. I was left second-guessing myself about whether I was even submitting my issue correctly. Once I managed to submit my dispute, the response time was long, just at the end to receive "The Bank is unable to sit in judgement on the merits of the claim or arbitrate between the parties involved. The only line of enquiry available is where the retailer is unwilling to provide goods or services. Although we are unable to process a claim for you through Mastercard dispute resolution, it does not necessarily follow that you do not have a case. If you pursue the matter through your local Trading Standards Authority or Citizens Advice Bureau they may be able to advise you further" I am disappointed in their inability to effectively help me resolve the issue and I'm searching for another bank who are respecting their clients more. I don’t think banks get the appreciation they truly deserve, especially when they’ve already taken steps to protect you before you even realise you’ve made a mistake. NatWest did exactly that for me, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Everyone most always leave bad reviews about their banks and take for granted the things they do above and beyond for you and do not asked to be thanked. Here’s what happened: I’m registered with PayPal and had received some much-needed funds which I intended to transfer to my NatWest Reward Account to meet urgent payment deadlines. Without thinking twice, I logged into PayPal, went through the withdrawal process, and transferred the money. Only after PayPal confirmed the transaction as “complete” did I log into my NatWest account to make my payments—only to see that my balance hadn’t changed. That’s when I remembered: I had cancelled my old debit card about a month earlier and been issued a new one. Since PayPal uses your card details for withdrawals, the money had been sent to a card that no longer existed. My heart sank. I immediately called PayPal, who confirmed the funds had already been sent and that NatWest would likely reject the transaction and return the funds automatically. Otherwise, I’d need to contact the bank myself to trace and request the return. It sounded like a process that would take days—time I didn’t have. While on hold with NatWest (for no more than three minutes), I logged into my online banking just in case they needed any details from me. But to my surprise—and immense relief—NatWest had already credited the funds directly into my account. No delays. No fuss. No need to chase anything up. Because of that, I was able to make all my payments on time and avoid the embarrassment of calling my creditors to explain a delay. Needless to say, I also took the opportunity to update my debit card details on PayPal to prevent this happening again. I’m genuinely so impressed and thankful for NatWest’s efficiency, forward-thinking, and seamless support. You turned what could’ve been a stressful few days into a non-issue, and I couldn’t be more appreciative. Thank you, NatWest Team—you’re amazing! Reviewed on: 15th October 2025
