Poor service, slow claims process, rising premiums

With insurance, there are limited interactions upon which to base your judgment. My experiences with Purely Pets thus far have generally been unfavourable. In fairness, the premiums seem competitive for the level of cover - although we will only truly be able to assess that if/when they pay out on a claim! However, they have increased the premium aggressively in year two, despite our pets being young, healthy (no prior claims) and kept indoors. They increased our premiums further when we told them we had moved (from West London to home counties and the pets never leave the house, so it's hard to see what possible change there could be to the risk profile). And now to my ongoing claim. Purely Pets don't pay for treatment up front so you are already having to incur expenses and wait to claim back. Then they have busted through their already lengthy claim assessment period with nothing but standard, identically worded text messages in the meantime, telling me not to worry. I sent a message to follow up and they have busted through their timeframe for responding to that too! Will they ever respond? Will they ever process my claim? The customer service is slow to non-existent and the fervour with which they increase premiums is another bad sign. (My claim has not yet been assessed, so this review is not influenced by a good or bad result). Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Excellent all round!

Our dog had never been ill until this year. Purely Pets have kept us informed of the status of our claims and there have been no quibbles so far over payments. It's been a very stressful time seeing our dog so poorly but at least we haven't had to worry about our pet insurance company. They really have been 1st class. Reviewed on: 10th September 2020

Easy Claims, Clear Process

We have been with Purely Pets for our dog since getting him as a puppy last June. In December, while on a walk, he badly cut his paw, managing to nick an artery and so requiring an operation at the vet to stitch up the artery and then the paw itself. This was then followed by the usual course of antibiotics and regular wound checks and bandage changes. I have worked in selling insurance previously for a number of years and so have an ingrained distrust of insurance companies (because they ARE a company and they do not exist as charitable, altruistic organisations desperate to pay out 'just to be nice', they exist to make themselves money), coupled with a worriers fear that I means I can't not have insurance, 'just in case'. So, when we put in our claim for the paw, I didn't expect much, however, aside from one item which was not paid out on due to the vets having a 400% mark up in price on (!!), the whole claim was paid. Any staff that I spoke to (which was a lot of staff as I wanted to make absolutely sure I was completing everything correctly so that it couldn't be claimed we had missed something in our application and so our claim was void) were really clear with instruction and very patient. Payment was about a month after the end of the claim and straight into my bank account. Really easy, really clear process. Fab. Reviewed on: 10th September 2020

Its comforting to know we are well covered

I stared my Purely Pets insurance 3 years ago when I purchased my Standard schnauzer "Albert". Although we've been fortunate and haven't needed to claim from our Purely pet insurance policy, I feel very comforted in the knowledge that we are well covered.
