Review of the RAC, Breakdown Cover:

Worst customer service ever

1
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the key replacement service I received yesterday. I trusted RAC to help me with a straightforward issue, but unfortunately, RAC service has left me with a much bigger problem. Prior to the service, my old spare key was working perfectly fine. However, after the technician completed the key replacement, neither the new nor the old key works, and I am now unable to start my car. This is highly frustrating and inconvenient, as I was expecting your service to resolve my issue, not create further problems. To make matters worse, I received an email from you advising me that this situation has nothing to do with RAC and suggesting that I take my car to a mechanic myself. This is entirely unacceptable, as the issue clearly arose from the work done by they key replacement service, making it your responsibility to rectify the situation. Reviewed on: 1st October 2024

Waited 6 hours and then left stranded

1
Yesterday I broke down 16 miles from home. I had to wait 6 hours for the RAC to come out. The guy did a diagnostic on my car and then checked my oil level. There was to much oil in the car so he told me he had to stop and could not do anything else for me. He just left me there. This is the customer service level you will get from the RAC. What happened to human kindness. Reviewed on: 11th April 2024

Broke down in the middle of nowhere with 3 young children one being disabled. The RAC took 13.5 hours to get to us, left us in the dark and cold over night with constant promises of arrival times. It was awful, we felt very vulnerable and unsafe. The RAC don’t care about you or your circumstances, they just want you money and then will supply you with a sub standard service. AWFUL!! RAC uses bad car batteries

1
I paid for brand new battery but they fitted one that is not able to hold charge right after they installed it. Their complaint system sends you back to breakdown team, so you have to breakdown again to get help. I hope my experience helps someone not to waste their money the way i did.. they are scammers Reviewed on: 22nd March 2024

1
DO NOT USE RAC - especially for Motorhome/ Caravan cover. We broke down 8 hours from home, vehicle wouldn't start. RAC towed us to a local garage, within 2 days the garage said they couldn't help, it needs to be towed to a Nissan specialist. We called RAC to get it towed to our home by a Nissan specialist, they said that while the car was in the garage they towed it to, it's MOT ran out (two days ago) and they cant tow a car without MOT. We can't get an MOT as the car wont start. We can't get RAC to tow as they wont without MOT. So our £26k car and motorhome (our second home) has been stranded 8 hours from home for 5 months. We're completely stuffed as we cant afford a tow. It's literally created a critical circumstance for our life and the complaints department don't care. Reviewed on: 22nd February 2024

RAC is unreliable

1
They are still disputing my recompense from a break down on January 2nd. Would not recommend. Happy to take £230 from a disabled person, who they left stranded for more than 7 hrs. BAD SERVICE. Its cheaper to call a local pick up and take to a garage. Reviewed on: 16th February 2024

Very disappointed service

2
My car battery went flat on a freezing cold morning at home, couldn't start the engine. So called RAC for recovery at 8:30am. Then I received a message stating that petrol people will be with me at 10:16pm! I understand that it's a very cold day, and they're very busy. Received 7 messages after to say that to they're sorry to be late due to high demand, and updated me the rescue time from 9am to 8pm, and never turned up. At 7pm that day, they called me that they couldn't come today, it have to be tomorrow between 8am-12pm. So I waited a bit more, the patrol came on 10:17am the next morning, said the battery needs replacement. He jumped lead to turn my car's engine on, told me to keep the engine on for a few hours, then drive to a car dealer to replace the battery, because he doesn't have one, and then left. It turned out to be that I paid £127 and waited for 26 hours for a upgrade home rescue package, just to have my car jump leaded for temporary work. Not sure whether I could start my car tomorrow morning! Very disappointed. Reviewed on: 20th January 2024
