RAC - Customer Service is shocking

My husbands car has been insured with RAC for last 2 yrs and we were happy enough until he was involved in a serious accident 2 weeks ago when a delivery van smashed into him when he was stationery (police attended the accident). When we contacted RAC they told us they don't deal with the car claim and WE would have to contact the underwriters of the policy, they also told us someone from their legal dept would contact us within a few days regarding a claim for personal injuries etc (this is all they do deal with when you are involved in an accident) but two weeks on no one has been in touch. Looks like its left to us to chase them up for info! Will never use them again for insurance. Their customer service is the worst i have ever experienced! Reviewed on: 22nd January 2017

RIPPED off!

Just received an email that for a missed payment due to other payments taken from my account I will be charged a hefty £25,and my insurance for a month is £29.Are you kidding me? A RIPP OFF COMPANY, which sadly won't realise until you already signed with them. Doing a research apparently a change of address would cost you the same and to cancel fee is at least £55.Right now I would love to speak to Mark Godfrey the Head of the insurance! AND I SHOULD SHARE HOW GREAT YOU BREAKDOWN COVER IS Too since I had to stay behind the wheels at - 3 Celsius with the window open behind a recovery van and a piece of metal, didn't you hear of platform, not to mention my car is automatic. To summarise I DON'T RECOMMEND RAC AND YOU SHOULD BE AWARE IF THINKING OF BUYING INSURANCE FROM THEM AND READ THE SMALL PRINT! Reviewed on: 7th January 2017

Worst insurance company - ever

I could honestly not say worse things about this company if I tried - RAC wanted to charge me 550 pounds more because I now have a UK driving licence - it is apparently 550 pounds cheaper to drive on an international driving licence than change to a UK one. I still have my International drivers so why do I need to change? Because I do not want to change and am legally allowed to drive on my international for another year RAC wants to cancel my policy and charge me 75 pounds to do it. You must be kidding me! Further the consultants slipped up and I now have proof of this company lying via my phone record which I will make public should they not sort this mess out. Best Car Insurer I've dealt With

Having dealt with some terrible car insurance companies, I was really pleased to set up my policy with RAC. They have always been a reputable company, so to have the cheapest policy with them via a comparison site, is great. It was easy to set up online and they didn't even ask for my NCD proof! administrative incompetence

Took out car insurance with RAC after finding their quote cheapest from "compare the market.com". Taking out the policy online was simple and straight forward. Problems started 3/4 of the way through the policy when we changed our bank account. Every direct debit was switched over automatically - or so we thought. We received a letter from RAC saying our policy would be cancelled immediately if we didn't pay. Rang up and made a direct payment by Credit Card and ensured they had the correct bank details and direct debit mandate - they had. Next month exactly the same thing happened! Another phone call and an apologetic reply. I thought everything was settled. Received another letter demanding payment. Paid the remainder of the policy by credit card and told them not to renew the policy at it's expiry. Found cheaper insurance with Direct Line. All done. I then find out the RAC policy had been renewed and money taken. Can't repeat the words used in the phone call. Total Incompetence, hate to think what would have happened if I had to make a claim! Very Satisfied Customer

When it was time to renew my car insurance I did what most of us do and go to a comparison site for the best deal, RAC wasn't the cheapest but as I usually pay by monthly installments they offered one of the best interest rates and with the additional bonus of getting RAC roadside assistance for a few pounds extra a month I thought this was the best deal by far. Overall good customer service but terrible company policies.

Last week I had 2 causes to contact the RAC car insurance. We were insured with them already. The first thing was that I needed to enquire regarding adding business insurance to my car insurance. They wanted to charge me a £25 admin fee plus and extra £3 per month! Not worth it. The second time was when we bought a new car. We were going to have 2 cars. Because we needed to change over the no claims policy to the new car (2 save £400 across the 2 cars they still charged us an extra 25 pound fee. We also had to pay a deposit on the policy we already had as they had to start it 'again'. Polite but crazy charges. Reviewed on: 9th August 2015
