Review of the Saga, Home Insurance:

Good price

After comparing other companies Saga came in with a competitive price frozen for 3 years Reviewed on: 29th September 2021

Exorbitant Renewal Quote

£134 year one-Year 2 quote £371. Ludicrous. Many providers quoting same as first year price. absolute joke. Reviewed on: 6th December 2023

Awful customer service

1
tried 9 times to cancel my fathers home insurance due to the huge increase in premium, could never get through. They sent a letter saying they couldnt take premium due to outdated bank details then took it anyway!! as the bank allowed them to do so. Kept trying to contact them still couldnt get through so raised a complaint and it has currently taken nearly 2 months to get anywhere close to getting a refund and now they are demanding further details. They use confusing and bullying systems and there is no way my father, who has dementia, would be able to negotiate his way through them. Utter disgrace Reviewed on: 16th November 2023

Absolutely rubbish when making a claim

1
Absolutely rubbish when making a claim. I phoned 3rd October 23, to make a claim about a leak as I had the accidental cover, a plumber came round and said he will order the parts and fix it the following week. Almost 4 weeks have gone by and many calls later to complain about the service and no fix. They sent a plumber in 26/10/23 and "stated its a new job and not authorised to fix it! What is going on with Saga!! need help please- totally rubbish service for the over 50's!! Reviewed on: 26th October 2023

Unjustified increase in premium

1
Renewal premium more than double. Rang and said I have just one question. The call handler clearly knew what I was about to say. Could not give me and reasonable answer about such a massive increase. Found it cheaper elsewhere BUT the real joke was that they used the same insurer as Saga! This was for landlord insurance and early this year Saga did the same with my car renewal! Day three of Home Emergency and still not fixed.

2
My kitchen sink was blocked and I phoned Saga Home Emergency. I got through to the number listed but was then put on hold for ages to report problem. Within six hours a plumber arrived, but despite working on the sink for 3 hours, he could not resolve the problem. Day 2: hearing nothing from Saga, phoned, 45 mns wait to speak to someone. They said they would send plumber back and asked me to hold on whilst they checked something. Call cut off. I phoned back three hours later: 54 mns on hold. Told earlier call not logged. Then that as original plumber had sought extra payment, and had not quoted for follow up they had to wait for that to be done. I made a formal complaint. Day 3: Nothing until 4 p.m. when I got a text telling me my case had been resolved. Now on hold trying to speak to an actual person. Result: Stress and frustration. If SAGA cannot perform this basic emergency service, why are they offering it? Reviewed on: 25th October 2023

Incompetent

1
Horrendous increase + 3 times increase. Customer service - polite but less than helpful. I paid outright but they still set up a renewed DD. ( fuming). Cancelled. But dubious they have implemented the cancellation! I do NOT recommend Saga! Reviewed on: 18th October 2023

Massively overpriced

1
Renewal 64% increase to £1200 . ‘Compare the market’ had several quotes of around £200 for similar cover levels. Customer for 13 years and have clearly allowed myself to be ripped off by not changing insurer Reviewed on: 14th October 2023

Appalling service

1
We had a burst pipe in the roof space 15 December 2022. We told driers needed before any repair work. . No driers installed until 15 March. No plasterers or decorators were able to come until 25 May, after that it 6 weeks before light fittings replaced. Arranged to get carpet quote ourselves and saga to reimburse us 15 July. Work all finished August. Total of 50 phone calls, numerous emails, many unreturned phone calls. Had a letter of apology from Saga for long delay, and overall lack of communication. Was sent a bouquet of flowers plus £350 compensation. However had still to pay total of £550 excess and renewal of insurance had gone up £100. Haven't a good thing to say about my dealings with Saga house insurance. Reviewed on: 11th October 2023

Home Emergency Cover waste of time

1
When my father reached out after my mother passed away regarding a ‘home emergency’ he was told erm erm erm this isn’t covered! Then when asked if I could speak to a supervisor, the telephone went dead after 29minutes, very convenient! Let me suggest to Saga ‘customer service advisers’ should be able to in the very least provide customer service. Training in empathy and how to articulate themselves should be on the agenda also. Absolutely disgraceful, I expected so much more. Reviewed on: 4th October 2023
