Review of the Santander, Mortgage:

Worst Company Ever! Avoid if you are a first time buyer

My Partner and myself recently applied to Santander for a new mortgage on the help to buy scheme for new build properties. They gave us a promise that their is no problems whatsoever and we can proceed to find a new build property. after we have found the new-build, our dream house that ticketed all the boxes, we proceeded to complete the mortgage application. After an initial yes, and got all the other paperwork and solicitors and everything else in order, paid for the survey and all these things, they suddenly withdrawn the mortgage. just like that! It was not a affordability issue or a credit issue. after a lot of fighting with them we eventually find out that the underwrites had the wrong address history and they could not find us on the credit file and then declined it on that basis. The address was correctly given on the application paperwork. it is clear that someone in administration has made an error and typed 54 in stead of 45. Stander will not review or accept the appeal. "they sympathise with our situation and can clearly see that it was a innocent clerical error however we can not appeal the decision. Our decision is final and it is because of the incorrect address history" Even though it was their error, they refuse to take another look at his application. We also are not getting any money back. WE have lost £1000's in fees both with the solicitors and the builders that we are not getting back, and we have lost our house because the builders does not want to wait for a new mortgage application being done with a new lender. Because the computer is saying "no" because the computer was given inaccurate information Santander says NO. Even-though they have acknowledge that there was an error, they still say no. Never in my Life have I dealt with an company that was so in-human and bullying as Santander. I am at a loss for words to the this. If you are a first time buyer, please avoid like the plague, they will cost you a lot of money that you may not have and will take you years to save up again. Can't fault them

I have long had a fantastic experience with Santander Mortgages. I have fell on hard times in the past and they have been nothing but helpful. Can't fault them. Reviewed on: 5th June 2019

Santander Remortgage - Appalling

Started our mortgage review on 29 March 18 and the amounts and decisions keep changing from the mortgage advisor to the underwriting, had to change from repayment to interest only back and forth each stage takes 5 days, it is now 2 May 19 and still do not have a decision. With all the technology available and after several 40 minutes telephone calls, that the next steps takes over 10 days. The next chase up call I have been advised that due to Easter they are running 2 days late so 7 working days then next stage., Reviewed on: 2nd May 2019

Awful service

We initially had no problems not until we remortgaged and despite doubling our income over 5 years Santander would not let us remortgage for anymore when we wanted to move home. It seems they penalize you severely for having one child even though they are in school. They have no mortgage advisers in branch either. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2019

No customer service

I ended up with Santander because I had the mortgage when I was married. Trying to extend my leasehold, they demanded I use their lawyer and pay for theirs and mine as well. Customer service sucks. I would really spend more to get more elsewhere. BEWARE. Reviewed on: 12th December 2018
