Starling were once a very good bank - but no more.

Starling were once a very good bank. Unfortunately they became a bit lax in vetting new customers - their Know Your Customer checks were deficient. As a result they have over-reacted and now are fearful of being caught out again. They over-regulate and over-control what customers are allowed to have and to do. They do this to the extent that payments from a European government agency are delayed in a pretence at money laundering/anti-terrorism checks - for a state paensio. Reviewed on: 16th April 2026

Everything is good, except PayPal support

Starling is the best bank in the UK

Starling has been my bank of choice for over 10 years and the attention and care they provide for their clients is second to none! I have 4 different products with Starling and cannot speak highly enough about the ease of banking with them. And in the rare ocassions when I have needed assistance, the online customer assistance has always been both efficient and helpful. As someone who cannot easily go to physical branches or do my admin during 9-5, I appreciate Starling for being available to me 24/7. Reviewed on: 14th April 2026

NO freedom of choice!

I switched my starling account for another UK bank account to get a switching offer, however, when I've tried to reopen a Starling Bank account. . . I've been refused, because Starling policy now states that once you close the account, you can no longer open another one!!! Reviewed on: 31st March 2026

But we're currently making some changes to our onboarding process, and have temporarily paused applications to returning customers. I've now been with Starling bank for about 5 years,There's several features I like, instant spending notifications being one of them. A saving account that pays a generous 4%, and when I had a problem a very patient agent helped me with my query. Reviewed on: 27th March 2026

Use for everyday needs.

Use for everyday needs. Love the pie visual to see where my money is being spent. Easy to use! Great for the simple banking. Even have saving pockets where I round up and can find random bits of money! Always a nice surprise . Doesn’t take much space in my phone either Reviewed on: 26th March 2026
