I turned to step change in 2020 my marriage had broken down , and I was left with a lot of debts so I owed about 16000, at the time, iv been able to put all my debts as one payment, so far iv payed just over 6,000 pounds in the last 5 years I'm glad I did turn to step change, they have helped me sort out my debts and now iv been able to sleep at night Reviewed on: 24th May 2025

After years of struggling financially with debt building up I decided to contact Stepchange. I had to prepare a budget and they helped with this. They then explained what my options were. I hadnt asked for help before as I thought being a homeowner (mortgaged) that my only option would be to sell my home. However, there were other options available. They spent a lot of time explaining and discussing these with me. I am now on a payment plan and make one manageable payment each month. Since being in the plan I have spoken to them to ask about needing emergency credit which they advised on. More recently my circumstances have changed and I am now moving to a cheaper part of the UK as I now work from home - my plan being to clear my debts. Once this is finalised they have said to contact them and they will run through my options. Reviewed on: 7th July 2023

Fantastic service

Before my friend suggested to ask step change for help I was becoming over run by my debts and was feeling overwhelmed. Then my friend told me about how step change literally changes her life, so I thought what's the harm. I filled out the easy on line application, and received a prompt acceptance, I have found that I now have so much less stress over how I'm going to find money for necessity that we all require and it was also easy and very friendly customer service when I did require some help with my application. The service from the outset is so supportive and understanding. Couldn’t have asked for anything better during my ‘hour’ of need. Where you creditors turn a deaf ear, Step Change come into their own. I cannot praise Step Change enough for their kind and friendly approach, as well as coming up with a solution to my financial problems. My budget is still a stretch but at least it's not stretched to breaking point. The follow up is also very good and serves to remind me to keep a tight rein on my finances, as well as offering me hope for the future. Reviewed on: 7th July 2023
