Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Reach out if needed

I wanted to move debt providers & had been advised to contact StepChange. The move was undertaken in a friendly way but I hadn't expected to have to contact the companies who had 'bought' my debt to collect bank details. I had assumed staff at StepChange did this. However it did prove beneficial as each company was polite,friendly and not after my blood so I felt at ease with them. I find speaking about my debt situation stressful as I am ashamed to have got into a situation I could have avoided. StepChange are not judgemental and are helping me clear my debts in a manageable way. I recommend anyone in a similar situation to contact StepChange and discuss options. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026
