Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

User-friendly, easy to set up and good support

I had growing debts with energy companies, credit cards, overdrafts & loans, got so bad I was diagnosed with severe depression & was recommended to try a debt management charity. Chose Step change due to its user-friendliness & was easy to plan a budget. They have dealt with all my debts without much hassle & it's easy to contact them if something urgent. Don’t bury your head in the sand. Speak to Stepchange.

For numerous reasons, I found myself in a lot of financial trouble and had a lot of institutions continually making contact quite rightly attempting recompense. The problem was that due to my circumstances at that time I had no way of meeting my obligations and the continual contact added to my already stressful situation. A friend recommended Stepchange and told me how they’d helped him in the past so I gave it a go. Truely glad I did. They helped organise a payment plan that was affordable, the phone calls and letters stopped and I’m currently in a position where two thirds of my debts are paid off and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. If I’d have continued burying my head in the sand and not reached out to Stepchange, I dread to think what would’ve happened. Whatever your circumstances, they can help. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

A helpful charity. Kind staff on helpline.

I was struggling with monthly payments and found Stepchange. Yes it’s helpful but I feel a bit vulnerable without credit cards and really struggled with car expenses when my car failed its mot.
