Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I was worried about speaking to StepChange as I new...

I was worried about speaking to StepChange as I new I had to fill in all my incoming and out goings . I'm not very good at speaking on the phone and thought I would have to go through. everything on the phone, but thankfully I could fill in the form on-line. I was concerned that I would get bullied in to changing thinks so it would free up more money, like get cheaper brands when shopping, walk to work when you can to save petrol, Or find cheaper quotes for Internet etc, I thought everything would be looked at in great detail to see where I can save more money. But it was easier than I thought. they were friendly and understanding .I would recommend to get in touch with StepChange if you have debt issues as they will deal with the companies you owe money to which takes the weight off your shoulders, you are able to stress less knowing it's all in hand. I got into debt after a cancer diagnosis stopped me working. Instead of dealing with it straight away I let it get out of control. Macmillan recommended Stepchange. A long but helpful consult with a lovely lady from Stepchange and we got it all under control and managed. The stress just evaporated. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025
