Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

yes it's stressful, but it eventually gets you there.

Don't take on credit cards at all

When you need them it's gotten bad and you worry. But they really help you when you need it. You don't won't to be in depth and the banks cut you off with interest rates too high. Step change help a lot. But it should get like that. You banks give your more if you earn more but if you lose your job.then have to work 2 low paid jobs just to pay your bills. I was completely overwhelmed not sleeping or eating didn’t want to leave the house. Stepchange arranged a 30 day pause and then contacted all of the agencies I owed money too. Set up a manageable amount per month to pay back Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025
