Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

StepChange transformed my life.

StepChange transformed my life. I was DROWNING in debt - almost £40k and interest fees were rising faster than I could keep up. Each month I would need to borrow more to survive. Stepchange made the whole process from start to finish an absolute breeze. You can even complete the process without having to speak to anyone directly. I had quite a lot of dept and since my stroke I had been unable to work and the debts where piling up. I contacted stepchange who helped me do an income and expenditure firm and suggested a debt management plan. I was so relieved a big burden had been lifted off my head and agreed an affordable monthly payment. I make an affordable monthly payment to Step change and they make the payments to my creditors. Life changing, if struggling with debt repayments.

Quite a while ago I was struggling very much with debt, after losing my job, and the bills, debt repayments, and general everyday costs were piling up, and I honestly thought there was no way out of that horrible nightmarish situation. Then we were advised to try Stepchange, who are free to use, and they sorted us out with a repayment plan we could afford. They contacted those we owed money to, and they stopped charging interest on the debts and stopped the threatening letters. We do a yearly review with them, to keep everything straight. We are now quite close to paying everything off, and I would recommend Stepchange to anyone struggling to keep their heads above financial water. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
