Review of the Tesco Bank, Car insurance:

Don't do it!

1
Don't do it! I chose them as best value for money when looking at different providers in August 2024. Then a tree came down in Storm Darrah yesterday, it fell on the car in my driveway. No-one was in the car. Luckily it didn't have full weight of the tree on the car as a wall was in the way, but there are dents in the roof and on the bonnet. Purely cosmetic - I can drive it to the garage, all the doors open fine. I filled in the claim form online, and took over an hour, and on the last page received instant notice that it's my fault, a total loss and I don't get a courtesy car. The car is perfectly fine. But a form tells me that it's a total loss? No ones come to assess it? This is criminal -You can't provide a service and assess something as written off if it's in your best interest and are financially motivated to do so. I assume you've done this because prices to fix cosmetic damage with the garage have gone up because of inflation. Its outrageous! The car cost me 10,000 last year second hand, this year it will be the same to re-buy, but I'll be lucky to get 3,000 from Tesco, just because it costs around that to get it fixed. I've now been on hold for 22 minutes trying to get an explanation... Just spoken to a woman who said will take 2 weeks to get an engineer out and not entitled to courtesy car while we wait for Tesco to assess the damage only if its in repair. Apparently that was an optional extra to pick when I signed up but I'm the stupid woman who didn't pick it. In summary: When a storm hits the UK, and a tree falls on your car while its parked on your driveway, it's your fault, and if your so lucky that it only scratches and dents the roof, it's a total loss, and good luck buying a car with the scraps they want to pay you. Mockery

1
Tesco bank started off OK, but since I've been with them my policy has done nothing but go up even though I have no claims each year and they keep giving different excuses why this is so, I've never had an insurance company for my policy like it and their staff do not care that I have said its enough and that I'm leaving in December, do not recommend at all! poor communication and threatening letters

1
I had insurance for my car with tesco for a year. The following year the price went up and I found a better deal with someone else. I thought it would change without me telling tesco, and when they asked for money I ignored them. I got letters and I rang them and we agreed that I had gone with someone else. Then I got a letter threatening debt collecting and saying I would not get credit anywhere. I rang them and explained and a very nice man took me though cancelling on line. I had to upload the contract with the other company. He said that would be the end of it. But another threatening letter came saying I had to pay for the weeks up till now with threat of debt collection. I really don't know why they behave like this. and it's hard for an older person like me when the demands mount up Reviewed on: 26th August 2020

DO NOT USE THEM

Tesco car insurance tried to take my money for renewal without telling me I did not want to renew as they were two exspensive tried to tell them that I had already renewed with another company but they cept saying you need insurance on youre car so they weren't listening very difficult to cancel Reviewed on: 11th August 2020

Do not purchase insurance

1
Started my insurance 20th August 2019, due for renewal a year later. Upon a reminder I did a comparison for the cheapest and Tesco wanted an extra £150. Unfortunately my car can was hit by an amazon delivery driver classing it as a category N wrote off. I rang up to inform them, like you should however I explained I needed to change my car insurance over to a different car, to which the charge was excessive. So I explained that my car was up for renewal and I didn’t wish to renew (keep in kind that I was still the legal owner of this car at this point, and deciding wether to fix the car or scrap it!) so by informing them that I did not wish to renew, and with there being less than 3 weeks left on my insurance, they cancelled the policy, took the money from my bank for the remaining amount (standard monthly premium) and cancelled my years no claims! When disputing this with them, they’ve said there is nothing they can do because the policy has been cancelled. Absolutely disgusting. Avoid at all costs, pay the extra for another insurance provider. Reviewed on: 7th August 2020

Appalling customer service

1
I got told by an agent on the phone that I didn’t need to pay any more payments until September due to my renewal. So I didn’t put the money aside that month for the payment as it wasn’t expected off me. I got this confirmed by a separate agent on an online web chat who also said I didn’t have to pay so I thought ‘great’ because how can two people mess up right ? So it’s got to the end of this month and guess what I’ve been charged when I was told by numerous agents I wouldn’t need to, so now I am in overdraft with my bank and won’t have enough money to pay all my bills this month. It’s very saddening and Tesco told me there is nothing they can do! I’m sorry but there is always something. I also got informed I was speeding a month ago doing an apparent 60mph in a 30mph which I instantly went wide eyed about as I don’t speed. Turns out my gps had skipped and located itself elsewhere as I was on the dual carriageway at the time doing the speed limit. So I wouldn’t recommend the black box either. Whatever you do, stay clear. Reviewed on: 30th July 2020

Keeping it simple

I used to spend hours checking out car insurance when mine was due for renewal every year. That was until I switched to Tesco Bank Car Insurance. My premium has hardly changed over the last 4 years and I still receive the same benefits. The customer service is top notch and any changes can be made online, therefore not costing the usual admin fees. All in all, a great service. Reviewed on: 10th July 2020

Well done!

I recently had a claim for no fault of mine, and the advisors were brilliant, from start to finish. They guided me right through the process, keeping me updated via a text message and making sure everything was in order. I would highly recommend it. Reviewed on: 2nd July 2020

Worst service. Do not use

1
Absolutely awful service from start to finish. Tried to make me claim twice and pay 2 excesses after the boot lock was damaged due to glass after someone smashed my back windscreen. Couldn't get through on the phone on a Sunday as they are closed and then no one calls you back. Two advisors were very apologetic and friendly but the 3rd was absolutely useless, uninterested and a waste of time. Will not be renewing with them and won't be renewing my house and pet insurance and mobile contract with them either. Reviewed on: 19th June 2020
