Avoid Tide’s company incorporation service

I used Tide because they were advertising an offer to incorporate a new company for you as part of the sign-up process. Instead, I wasted almost a week going backwards and forwards with support. They repeatedly demanded a regulatory document that I could not obtain until AFTER the company had first been incorporated, despite the entire reason I was using Tide being to have them incorporate the company in the first place. I explained this catch-22 several times, clearly stated that the business did not yet exist, and even asked whether they were actually requesting a different document. None of this was properly addressed. I simply received essentially the same boilerplate response again. It genuinely felt like nobody was reading what I was saying. For a company actively promoting a service specifically designed to help people create a new company, this level of incompetence is pretty astonishing. Compliance checks are completely understandable. Repeatedly demanding documentation that cannot yet exist while ignoring every explanation of why is not good compliance, it is terrible customer service. After almost a week of this nonsense I gave up and asked them to close the application. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding Tide. If they cannot competently handle the process of opening the account and incorporating the company they are advertising to create for you, I certainly would not trust them with something as important as my business banking. Avoid Tide.

Avoid Tide. I wish I had never opened an account. I became the victim of an impersonation scam involving criminals pretending to be Tide. I genuinely believed I was following instructions to stop fraudulent transactions, not authorising payments. What followed has been an extremely disappointing experience. Tide acknowledged that the transaction was significantly out of character for my account and that their own fraud detection systems failed to intervene, yet they still decided to hold me responsible for a substantial proportion of the loss. The way this has been handled has been stressful, frustrating and detrimental to my mental wellbeing, adding significant distress to an already traumatic experience of being scammed. Requests for information and evidence have repeatedly been dismissed on “confidentiality” grounds, leaving me feeling that I have had to fight to be heard rather than being supported as a victim of fraud. The whole experience has completely undermined my confidence in Tide. If you are considering Tide, my advice is simple: look elsewhere. I certainly wish I had. Reviewed on: 17th August 2026

I'm testing sole trader accounts and this is great

I've been trying different business bank accounts for the sole trader aspects of my freelance work. I was a bit put out because I had got a limited company account with Starling, then they turned me down for a sole trader account and even after asking repeatedly they would not explain why, which is insane, so I regret giving them a good review last week. I'm kind of pleased though because tide.co sole trader account is excellent it is much clearer and brighter and I feel more positive using it. Tide has virtual cards which are really useful and I am preferring the look and feel of it. Reviewed on: 24th May 2026

Awful experience

I applied to tide with a £80 incentive offer. The account took 3 weeks to open. Support was non existent and after using the account for a few months, paying their extortionate fees for just receiving money into the account. I never got the offer money and they denied that I qualified for it. Untrustworthy and awful value service. Reviewed on: 14th January 2026

Beware Tide can freeze your account

Beware of using Tide for your business. Tide have frozen my account without offering any reason, or engaging with me to resolve any issues. I have offered to provide any information they might require, but they have refused. It is now 2 weeks, and my business is now in danger of having to close. The worst customer service with Tide.

I have two business accounts with Tide. The last five days have been pure hell after they paused my business accounts without notice. There’s no one to actually speak with and conversations are via chat app only. It’s been the worst and most frustrating experience of being in business for over 20 years. Apparently there was a security risk they were alerted to by a client of mine that was delaying payment for an outstanding invoice. There was no warning, no explanation and I had to find out when my card was declined and I couldn’t accept payments or make payments. 5 days of auto generated replies and being pushed form one AI bot to another with the same generic answers. The stress has been unbelievable and even after providing ID and evidence on my part they couldn’t tell me what was going on. I must have spoken to 10 different chat people all with auto generated replies. It was only when I rung their fraud team and said they were incompetent and had frozen my accounts causing me loss of business and that I would be seeking compensation and reporting them to the Financial Ombudsman that they unpaused one of the accounts. They said I had to show evidence that my dispute with a client was resolved. There was no dispute and the client had deliberately caused a security alert to delay paying me what they owed. I would avoid this bank at all costs as this is the second time this has happened and to compromise a persons business and livelihood is totally unacceptable on every level. There’s no customer service and you’re treated like a criminal with no support and left with anxiety and stress whilst they have control and power over your finances without due cause. There’s very least you would expect is to be supported throughout a security check. Almost on the brink of a breakdown with these bunch of unprofessional idiots! Reviewed on: 9th July 2025
