RAC auto renewed our policy RAC ‘auto renewed’ our policy, without telling us - we had already got alternative insurance. Cancelling RAC insurance is a real pain to do! Reviewed on: 25th January 2026

Waste of time

Filled in details online. Obtained quote of £377.08. Tried to pay having put in purchase date - and suddenly 'the site was closed due to maintenance'. Rang up - 10 minutes listening to drivel before I got to an adviser. Lots more sales chat - finally confirmed the quote of £377.08 and eventually go to the payment part - and I was then told. 'The price is £553 - OK?' Hang on - what ... No explanation for the huge price hike, just told 'That's now the price...' No explanation for not honoring the quote which on screen I was told was valid for today. He just kept saying - 'That's the price - OK? No - that's really NOT OK! Disgraceful! Good service and reasonable price

Had a really positive experience with RAC. Whenever I call I get good service and I asked them to call me back at a particular time and they actually did. It is the small things that make a big difference Reviewed on: 13th September 2017

Appalling service & total rip off

Appalling. They automatically renewed my policy at an increased premium, it took me 8 days to get through on the phone to tell them I did not want to renew, then they charged me a £25 fee and £33.17 for the 8 days cover, even though I had taken out a policy with eSure. It then took me hours and hours to get through to pay the charges. Total rip off. Reviewed on: 29th August 2017

Disgusting company

My brother collapsed at hospital in a diabetic coma and was in and out of consciousness. I rushed to the hospital before he was transferred to another hospital...I rang, as my brother's insurers, these clowns to get me put on the insurance for 1 hour so I could drive his Discovery home...they wouldn't unless we started a brand new policy, for 1 hours insurance! I haven't had a bump in 20 +years, no DD, no claims for 20+years...I have 1 speeding for doing 34 in a 30 (shoot me) I had 3rd party for any car on my own policy but then when accidents happen when you haven't insurance! Pillocks. We have now moved the policy to another company even though it cost us more. Reviewed on: 15th August 2017

Confusing

RAC seem to be the only insurance company who specify that the NCB is in the name of the main driver rather than the policyholder. This caused no end of problems when I was shopping around for new insurance and necessitated me cancelling another car insurance policy early so I could use the NCB from that vehicle. So frustrating. RAC are the only company who specify this so it caused unnecessary frustration. Avoid. Reviewed on: 28th July 2017

REASONABLY PRICED INSURANCE

Normally companies put up their prices by ridiculous amounts annually once you have bought the initial insurance. RAC were competitively priced the following year and since switching to them have been a satisfied customer! Reviewed on: 22nd July 2017

Reasonably priced and dealt with my motor accident promptly

RAC are relatively competitively priced in the marketplace. Efficient. Was a little disappointed to have calls from other companies within hours of having my accident asking if I had any injuries. How did those other companies get my details so quickly? Reviewed on: 15th July 2017

Dissatisfied

Changed my car to my husband's rang to change car and they hiked the price £140 more than my husband paid even though all details and cover were the same. Then had the cheek to charge me £55 cancellation. Disgusting. Reviewed on: 7th July 2017
