Review of the Admiral, Home insurance:

Friendly and helpful staff on the end of the telephone

I had to telephone regarding a leak from an upstairs flat. The Admiral employee I spoke to was kind, knowledgeable, professional and very helpful. She called back when she said she would and discussed my options with me. I was very impressed with the service. Reviewed on: 22nd August 2019

Insurance which does not cover you - AVOID

1
If you take out a policy with Admiral, hope you never have to claim as they will not honor their terms and conditions which effectively renders the policy redundant.  I registered a home insurance claim in May-22 and to date have had endless telephone conversations which I have initiated despite countless call back requests, email exchanges which have not resulted in any conclusion, empty apologies and false promises. Insurance by definition is a security you can fall back on should a loss event occur, however Admiral are making every effort possible to prolong the claims process and detract with vague responses in the view of diminishing any hope you might have that they will honor their terms and conditions of the policy.  I now find myself at a juncture of having to escalate this matter to the ombudsman as Admiral are incapable of managing and administering a claims process and are ill equipped to provide the basic level of service. Admiral has shrewd commercial relationships with their preferred suppliers who offer Admiral significant discounts in order to maximise Admirals profits whilst short-changing the end customer, you and me.   None of this is outlined in the terms and conditions and not explained to you when taking out the policy however it is forced on you should you need to claim. Who knows when and how this will draw to a conclusion but please please please avoid Admiral at all costs!!! Reviewed on: 27th July 2022

Bad product knowledge/customer communication

1
I had to renew the home insurance for my sister who has dementia and had moved into a nursing home while we sell the property. I had explained to the advisor that the property would be unoccupied but we would stay at no more than 60 day intervals to check on things (the neighbours calling in weekly in the meantime). I was sold a 12 month insurance policy on this basis starting 5 days later when the existing one ran out. Having not recieved the policy documents or had payment taken after 3 days I called again to check all was OK. A different advisor confirmed it was all set up to happen as a renewal and to re send the policy documents by email and not to worry. On the date of renewal still no documents or payment taken so I called again. This time the advisor saw a note on the policy and checked with a manager. She informed me that Admiral did not insure unoccupied properties and the 60 days meant over 12 months not between occupancies. I was obviously very angry that I had not been informed of this on either of the previous two calls and that no one had bothered to try to contact me to let me know of the mistake. I was now left with an uninsured property and having to find a new insurer immediately. NOT IMPRESSED! Reviewed on: 27th June 2022

Cancelation fee scam

1
Support was almost impossible to contact and when you do get through the information given by agents is terrible. Unable to explain why I was being charged a cancelation fee or why my insurance renewed automatically when I did not knowingly agree to any type of renewal. I was told I would have to send my new, PRIVATE, policy details in order to get charge withdrawn, again without being to explain why. Reluctantly sent the policy and still only reduced the cancelation charge from £50 to £25. Also expect customers to pay to an external debt collector instead of providing ways to pay directly. Ridiculous. Reviewed on: 10th June 2022

Bad with House Insurance Claims

1
I'm amazed at all the 5 star reviews, however, the majority of these are to do with either initially setting up a policy or renewing a policy without having made any claims on it. It appears that it is a totally different story when a claim has to be made. One never gets to speak to the same person handling the claim and one has to go through the whole process of describing what the claim is about and then there are contradictions in what is covered and how they can execute the work required. For example telling the customer to contact a particular contractor who is totally incapable of carrying out the work required and not even able to appoint a sub contractor who can actually do the work. Why should the customer have to phone company after company after company to get things moving. This is not how the fluffy tv adverts portray Admiral. Don't ever think that when you make a claim someone says "don't worry, leave it with us, we will sort everything out for you". Ot's not like that at all. So all you people who have never had to make a claim but give Admiral a 5 star rating, be warned. Of course they are nice and helpful when they want your money. Not so nice and helpful when you need them. In fact they just add to the stress of the situation. In my book, shop around and always take note from reviews such as mine. Experience counts ! Reviewed on: 6th June 2022

Do not bother ever claiming. Be warned.

1
You could pay for the claim yourself in the amount Admiral hike up the insurance after a claim. Admiral went for the cheapest quote for work needed and no monitoring of claim as it progressed very slowly. Reviewed on: 18th May 2022

Excessive costs to make changes

1
I got contects insurance for a rental property via Admiral (through a price comparrison site), for a reasonable cost. I moved house and then the prices offered were shocking: Original contents insurance for 1 year = £73. New property: To add buildings for the remaining 7 months = £210 (best via comparrison site for 1 year £168). To change contents only to new address = £58.63 The call handler admitted that if you go via a comparrison site you get as "new customer" discount!!!! Reviewed on: 9th May 2022

adding a property to multy cover

1
Absolute shocking service, call centre, dial this number and that number and on hold that long the call just ended. After 4 attempts and half a day the matter is still not sorted. Seems like cheap labour have taken over the call centres and there is no e mail address advertised to start a chat going. Stay well clear! Reviewed on: 26th April 2022

Diabolical

I have been with Admiral Home Insurance for several years and I MUST SAY THAT THEY WERE GOOD AND NOW THEIR SERVICE BECAME ABSOLUTELY DIABOLICAL.. I am trying to contact them by email and by telephone but they are ARE NOT REPLYING TO MY EMAILS AND CAN NOT GET THROUGH THE CALL.. Reviewed on: 10th March 2022
