Review of the Barclaycard, Platinum credit cards:

Worst Customer Service ever

1
After excepting a credit card offer from Barclays through my AARP membership, I immediately gave them information for two balance, transfers. The balance transfers with 0% interest were the sole reason I excepted the credit card offer to begin with. After waiting a few weeks, one of my statement still was not reflecting that the transfer has been made.. When I contacted Barclays, they told me that it failed to process, but they could not tell me why. When I asked how to resolve it, they said they could not help me as it had been over 45 days and I was required to do the transfer in that time period. I spoke with a customer care center supervisor named Kevin, who assured me that he could see that I had provided all information necessary for the balance transfer well ahead of the 45 days. However, since there was a problem on their end (one, they never made any attempt to resolve) he was not able to resubmit it. He acknowledged that I provided all the information to them for the balance transfer well within the required timeline. However, despite it, not being my fault, they could not resubmit and would not honor the original offer. He also assured me that I would be wasting my time to try and escalate it further as he was the final authority, and there was no one else that it could be escalated to. Reviewed on: 21st June 2023

The Human Touch!

I have a Barclay's Platinum Card, also a Master Card. I've always tried to pay the full amounts off every month, and on time. In September, my mother died. I was in pieces for a few weeks, sorting everything out, contacting relatives I hadn't spoken to in years - paying my credit card bill was the last thing on my mind. By the time I remembered, I'd missed the payment date (on both cards) and, obviously, incurred a late payment charge. I was so mortified that I contacted Barclays to explain why this had happened - and Barclays waived BOTH the late payment charges! I was surprised and touched at this - it just goes to show that banks can be human, after all. So well done, Barclays. Reviewed on: 27th January 2015

Fantastic

Excellent customer service. They can be reached online via social networks or over the phone, quick responses and keen to help their customers! Just a shame they don't review their accounts more frequently as I feel I could benefit from some of their additional products and services! Reviewed on: 26th January 2015

Don't let a brand leader take you for a ride

A little advice: don't take it lying down! I have had a Barclaycard for many years - indeed I signed up when Barclaycard was the default brand leader in credit cards, and the market was much smaller. I was a typical 'sleeping' customer - never incentivised to change. A couple of years back, they wrote to tell me (after lots of waffle) that my interest rate would be going up from 12% to 26%. After well over a decade of regular borrowing and payments, I explained that I thought this was daylight robbery, and we compromised on 18%. Financial services businesses can charge what they like, but it's our duty as customers to question it when it's just not good enough. Don't take it lying down! Reviewed on: 12th October 2014
