Doing ok but needs to improve in key areas.

Darlington Building Society does some good things, for sure, such as its involvement with and support for the Stockton and Darlington Railway 200th Anniversary celebrations. But it needs to improve. It is regularly out - matched by the neighbouring Newcastle Building Society in terms of its range of products, its branches and branch network, customer service, relationships with members, and overall impact in the community it serves. I use them for specialist savings accounts.

I use them for specialist savings accounts. Interest rates and terms are between in the middle of higher rate accounts and variable rate accounts don't seem to automatically fall in line with base rate reductions. Reviewed on: 29th January 2026
