When speaking on the phone the service and staff are great, happy, nothing ever seems to bother them. Great company. A lot of other companies could learn a lot from these people. Thank you. Reviewed on: 4th March 2021

if it wasn't for Jonathan Snee approching myself to ask how the Building Society could be of help to my little boy with Duchenne at a very critical time, i would have surely had a break down with some house renovations that didnt go to plan and the funding help revert the work in 2017. Good, easy to call + no long wait time and responsive, and 90% LTV for local. Less good, lenght of time from application to offer compared to other lenders Reviewed on: 2nd March 2021

Avoid Darlington !

My financial advisor found Darlington for me after being turned down by mainstream lenders and I was delighted when they accepted my application in principle. The fun started after this point, when a contract turned up at my house weeks after the valuation took place that had not been sent via my FA. They also separated out the fee's that we had arranged to be added to the loan. When I finally spoke to someone at Darlington after WEEKS of trying them on the phone - I promise this is not an exaggeration, my FA also struggled to get through to them, I was informed that it would delay the process to add them to the loan now and given that i was up against a deadline with Help to Buy, I decided to pay them on top. Another month goes by, the local searches take place and everything seems fine. We received authority to exchange from Help to Buy, then out of NOWHERE Darlington withdraw their offer due to an issue with the land in front of the property. My solicitor appealed my case, there is no issue and another 4 flats in the building have been granted mortgages no problem. I subsequently ran out of time and had to pull out of the sale at the last minute. I can understand different lenders have different criteria and they are well within their rights to make decisions on who they lend to and on what property but it was the lack of communication that upset me the most and the confusion caused by their inconsistency - they would email my FA, then the next bit of info would go to my solicitor, then the next in a letter to me in the post! impossible to keep track of and ultimately cost me my first property purchase and thousands of pounds. The worst. Wish there was 0 stars

The homeless guy on the corner is more likely to assist you in getting a mortgage than this company. We were told they 'specialised'jn adverse credit. In actual fact all they specialise in is wasting everyones time. For a start, we got give a DIP without a second thought, brilliant we will apply for mortgage.. WRONG! They asked contradicting queations over a 5/6 month period. First regarding the adverse credit which got 'satisfied' as they like to call it time and time again. Then it turned to our emergency service wage slips which they had before giving us the DIP and they decided they didnt like the layout. Its government issued and can't be changed though. Basically after multiple back and forths, slow on their part as we later (4months in) found out our person was only working 2 days a week, they change underwriter who is looking at it and start all over again with same questions deapite them having all answers.. and again going back to emergency service wage slips and not liking them. So because they can't take the time to learn, listen and understand our wage slips its a no from them... after 6 long hard months of waiting. They have no customer service skills and are incapable of managiny client expectations. Everyone we spoke to on the phone was very positive and 'yep its all good, looks great, we'll give you that mortgage asap' then hiding behind a screen its question after question, looking for reasons to decline and not caring about HTB time running out.. or the sellers also having to wait so long. Basically an awful company i wish i had never heard of. Can't even believe they are trusted with money. Reviewed on: 18th February 2021

Worst company I have dealt with

I have a bankruptcy so my mortgage broker recommended go with Darlington. Everything seemed okay until we made an application with them... They took a little while to go through the first couple stages, however made it through. We sent them all the details they requested they said looks good ... 5/6 months later they still have not made a decision, even though I get asked to pay for the valuation. So still waiting... and everytime they ask for something new I supply it. Then they put up a new wall to jump over. Me and my partner are both prison officers, they come with strange wage slips with loads of add ons... for some reason they accept her add ons but not mine! They got a letter from my work which isnt easy to get and then accuse it of being fake! Takes them months to reply, they dont answer the phone and dont ring back.. I got assaulted at work, went of half pay wrongly and explained this too Darlington, got this corrected and even a letter from head office.. and they refused to beleive it This company seem to hate civil servants or maybe just prison officers? They are sexist as they except my partner add ons but not mine? Aviod this company ... If darlington read this PAY ME MY MONEY BACK!!!! just to add because of Darlington incompetence It will cost me thousands... because I will miss out on the help to buy and miss out on the stamp duty.. if they would of told me back in the start... i would of found someone else... There is no personal touch nor is there custom way of looking into mortgages... please aviod Reviewed on: 18th February 2021
