Overpaying on a mortgage is pointless

1
2 years into my 5 year fixed rate mortgage I receive a letter to say my monthly mortgage payment would decrease by £200. I didn't want to decrease how much I pay as it is already low. Halifax say it is because I made an authorised overpayment, which means the amount I pay monthly would need to be decreased in order for me to keep paying until I reach the end of the term of my mortgage (18 years). It makes no sense whatsoever. What is the point in giving customers the option to overpay every year by 10% only to then re-review your mortgage and decrease how much you pay back the following year? If you want to overpay the 10%, you will need to have your mortgage recalculated every year, which basically feels like you are reapplying for your mortgage as I have so far spent hours and hours trying to do this and still haven't managed to get it sorted. It's pretty obvious Halifax have this policy as a way of keeping customers in debt for as long as possible. Reviewed on: 12th January 2024

Changing contract in middle of fix term

1
Halifax decided to change the amount that is able to be paid 3 years in to a 5 year fixed term. There has been no notification of change and no acceptance of a change in contract. They said clearly on the call that they are only trying to get their grubby hands on more money from the account. Dispicable behaviour. Reviewed on: 13th October 2023

Extremely untrustworthy

1
Do not even apply for a mortgage with these extremely unprofessional individuals. Initially I was told that they would lend me £125,000 for the mortgage and gave an AIP. Next they said they'd only loan me £99,000 because I spent £3000 to book a holiday on my credit card (which is what sound minded people do for insurance). Next day they told me that they could loan me somewhere between £119,000 and £135,000 with the full and same details i gave them again. Two days later, after sending my application to an underwriter, they saidnthey could only lend me £113,000 and specifically stated that this as because I had booked my holiday in my credit card DESPITE me paying it off days later. Utterly vile individuals. How is that junk bank still in operation. Managed by idiots. Reviewed on: 14th September 2023

Really poor customer service

1
It is incredible how bad their customer service is. They are literally useless. Everything has to go through a broker, the person on the phone was completely unable to assist with even the most basic questions. Reviewed on: 1st September 2023
