Lying con artists, should be banned

As per my contract I could port my 5 years fixed mortgage. Sold my house, struggled to find another one, finally did and HSBC said they can't offer me half as much amount, sent 39 documents proving now I earn much more and their mortgage advicer cancelled last min twice and then I raised a formal complain eventually got another advicer, she was a script reading robot who asked for way more documents despite some were not relevant. Mortgage in principal was approved for the amount I wanted but when it came to actual application for which I was asked to produce bonus letter, work official letter showing pay raise, I was pushed down to £20k less than my required amount on much cheaper property than I had few months ago. Nevertheless, carried out hard search and several soft searches and after 2+ months of struggle and discrimination today I'm told I'm not approved for anything over a phone call at 7pm. Absolutely disgrace, greedy twits with incompetent script reading clowns who can't speak English. Will never be using HSBC again. Reviewed on: 20th June 2024

Great rates but farcical process

It took 4 months for our HSBC mortgage application to be approved, a good 2 months longer than it should have done.mwe were passed pillar to post so many times we seriously regretted picking HSBC over a comparable deal with a building society. Our application was even closed down by HSBC for no apparent reason with us only finding out (and getting it opened again) when we called for an update. When the application finally went through I put a formal complaint in and to give the complaints department their due credit they compensated us with an amount equivalent to what we had been paying in higher mortgage payments while the application was going through. The rate is very good and is saving us nearly £200 pcm but the process of securing it was seriously painful! Reviewed on: 14th November 2016

HSBC Fixed Rate Mortgage

I am happy with my service and would recommend to others. I have obtained what I believe to be the best rate available to me be by choosing HSBC. I have not had any major problems with this service. HSBC mortgage change

I contacted HSBC to find out about making additional payments on my mortgage so as to end it faster. They talked me through how to make that change online myself. Very fast and efficient service. Reviewed on: 6th September 2016

A great rate, but slightly painful application process

I've been a HSBC mortgage customer for a year. I'm really pleased with the rate offered, which remains competitive despite a subsequent base rate reduction. However, the mortgage application process was quite painful and I spent many hours on the phone sorting out the disjointed workflow between various back office teams when my application got stuck in the system. On balance it has saved me a lot of money and I'd consider them for future remortgaging. Reviewed on: 30th August 2016

Absolute no go

First time buyer and shared ownership (only being 25) I had the agreement in principle with everything ready to go house approved etc. Went to the meeting to cross the t's and dot the i's and things start to change. I'm told that a new build requires a bigger deposit. An increase of £16k to be exact. I told them that it had been agreed on 10% deposit but this was wrong as well. Their systems even proved that it had been agreed at 10%. Unless I could provide a 25% deposit of the mortgage value then I couldn't have one. So this was 2months after the agreement with only 4 weeks before I have to get out of the rented property I'm in, due to it being sold. Having banked with HSBC for 10 years now I don't think it will reach 11. I received a phone call apologising from the mortgage advisor and that they wish to give me £100 as a sorry. Unfortunately no mortgage and £100 doesn't put me in the house I want to buy that was agreed with my girlfriend and 17month old son. It's difficult enough to get on the property ladder these days without a major bank letting you down hugely. Reviewed on: 15th March 2016

Helpful staff and easy process

We have had an hsbc fixed rate mortgage for 10 years, and have stayed with them through moving house. They gave us a personal advisor who made the process smooth and was a great point of contact. Reviewed on: 29th January 2016
