Review of the John Lewis, Partnership credit card:

Why change to New Day and lose credibility?

1
Had a partnership card for over 30 years, always smoothly. Now New Day are involved and I get a letter telling me my emails are not reaching me. Given log in puts me on a black screen with JOHNLEEISCREITCARD.COM in blood letters with links to credit cards that have nothing at all to do with John Lewis cards. Spelling wrong and looks like it’d been done by a hacker or a child. Lost all confidence cut up my card and rang New Day they are hopeless Reviewed on: 8th November 2022

I will not be applying to the NewDay credit card.JL has lost the plot and do not deserve loyalty.

1
I have been a loyal customer for over 45 years and now will avoid JL . They have not taken into consideration their older loyal customers and will deserve the fallout of their disastrous decision to change their financial credit card. Reviewed on: 26th August 2022

Declined new card

1
Despite originally having held a John Lewis store card for Caleys Windsor which was then transferred to a Partnership Card in 2004 and never having missed any payments, I have been declined a new card by New Day when the current one ends in October. Clearly loyalty means nothing any longer. Obviously as a retired person they don’t need my custom. Reviewed on: 26th August 2022

John Lewis kills customer loyalty in one stroke - its Ratner Moment

1
After 30 loyal years with the Partnership Card (having started with a Peter Jones one) I am now told my custom is no longer wanted. Declined for the NewDay card, likely due to my retired status - despite substantial pension income - and the habit of paying in full each month. No interest income for them then, so they are not interested. So no longer will I buy a significant weekly shop from Waitrose or order from John Lewis. Reviewed on: 26th August 2022

Closure of Partnership card - more than disappointing

1
I've had a JL Partnership card for many years. I use it to pay for everything, from day to day food shopping to holidays and big-ticket items like furnishings. I clear the balance in full every month. JL are now taking this away and requiring me to apply from scratch for an inferior card (fewer credit free days) at a time when I will be unable to secure anything like the credit limit I previously had, despite being comfortably able to pay. It seems from other reviews here that I am not alone in this - I'll bet there are thousands of JL customers who are recently retired, or taking a break or switched to self-employment who are perfectly able to manage their credit limits but will be refused the new card, or given a derisory credit limit. This is an unexpected and unfair situation. On the basis of the number of people being refused, I'm not going to waste my credit search on NewDay. Reviewed on: 26th August 2022

How to annoy customers

1
Got approved for new card, told I could use the account immediately, tried to order usual weekly shop, night before delivery, told declined - payment refused. Called phone number provided and got the order re-instated using old card. Trying to decide whether just use another card for Waitrose shop or tell John Lewis to get lost. The best case of how to damage your brand overnight

1
JL card holder for 30 years. Taken year off to build house but household income substantial. Been offered £250 limit from £10,000. Can't even buy weekly food shop with that limit. Complained and told my limit would be reviewed. Week later and no review. Unbelievable how absolutely terrible this change has been handled. Amir Goshtai, Director of John Lewis Financial Services should be fired for irreputable damaging JL brand. I'm apoplecticly angry how they can treat loyal customers in this way. Applied with unique card ...declined

1
Dreadful experience. Git my unique number, entered it, and got declined at first stage. I work full time, earn 50k, always pay balance...Why!! Rang up, 25 minute wait to be told i have to write to Newday?? I am livid. I cant even email!! I have to write a letter to enquire why they declined!! I have now applied for barclaycard which i will never use in john lewis or waitrose ever again. Angry in Cambridge!! Reviewed on: 25th August 2022

Irrational reduction in credit limit

1
I have applied today for the new JL card. My application was successful but my credit limit has been reduced from £17,000 to £5,000. I have held my JL card for 25 years and have an impeccable credit record and a substantial income. I have lodged a complaint, but if my limit is not restored in full I shall not be using the JL card. This is another case of John Lewis shooting themselves in the foot ( withdrawal of free coffees etc ) Reviewed on: 25th August 2022

the system simply is broken

1
got approved, yaaaay, triple points yaaay. new card valid for 10 days - literally 10 days, but it wont work people on the call centre (how quaint) have no idea, they want to help but no idea. system doesn't respond, I can't register or get my card to work. if I want to complain I have to write them a letter!!!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha - bunch of numpties - what a waste of time Reviewed on: 25th August 2022

Long time card holder rejected for the new card

1
Really odd. Received a letter today telling me my account is closing in November. Check online to reapply, get asked for a 'Unique Reference Number' which I should have received inviting me to apply for the new card (I didn't). Filled out & confirmed some details on the card application: "Sorry, denied". No explanation, no recourse. I feel stuck. This feels like a bizarre PR blip from John Lewis which makes me worried about how robust they are as a financial service provider. So it looks like I'll be terminating my 5-year relationship with John Lewis, finding a new rewards card, and warning people against them. Reviewed on: 25th August 2022
