An odd phone call .

I recently sent in a passbook to transfer a expiring Cash ISA to a new 2-year one but was surprised to receive a "courtesy call" asking for details of my address and national insurance number. I gave the information then wondered if I'd been the victim of a scam. I was reassured by the fact that the caller was ringing from a Mansfield number . . . and the passbook was eventually returned, together with the new one - but still don't understand why a courtesy call should need the information required from me.
