Monzo offer a free bank account for under 16s, with controls set by their parent or guardian.

Kids get their own neon card and can see their money in the Monzo app. Parents or Guardians can keep an eye on the account, set spending limits and schedule pocket money.

I would recommend the under 16’s account. The account was easy to open, the app is great and easy to use for both myself and son. I like the app notifications that let me know whenever a purchase is made which enables me to monitor spending. Reviewed on: 7th March 2026

So easy to use

Both my girls are under 16 and using Monzo now. It’s so easy to transfer money to them from any account. Very easy to add the app to their phones so they can see their balance. No monthly cost for the account which is a big plus. Reviewed on: 7th March 2026

I never even thought of having a Monzo account until...

I never even thought of having a Monzo account until I was informed about zero abroad fees. So I initially opened for that reason. Once I had an account I looked more into other accounts and experiences, since then I now have a savings account. Then I compared a Go Henry card for my daughter to the under 16s card, it was a no brainer and opened up an account for my daughter instantly. I think this is one of the best banks going and I’m now considering Monzo being my main account with my salary going in monthly. Reviewed on: 6th March 2026

Great account for young people

The app is easy to use and it's designed in a way that allows my son independence of having a bank account and card, whilst allowing me as a parent to keep an eye on things without it feeling intrusive. I feel this approach helps to teach money management skills whilst also fostering mutual trust between parents and children. Reviewed on: 6th March 2026

Under 16's cards, practical and easy to get and use
