The Nationwide FlexDirect current account pays interest on your money and you can earn cashback on debit card purchases for the first 12 months.

If you’re eligible for an overdraft, the first £50 is interest free. The FlexDirect account has to be managed online or over the phone, not at the branch.

I switched to the flex direct account with nationwide when i needed my own bank account after I split up with my wife last year. I've been using it everyday ever since. Its easy to use. i got a debit card which can be used as a debit card or used on contactless devices. its been very handy. i was also given the option to have a chequebook but i declined as money is tight. some other banks i've been with give you a chequebook whether you want it or not. I use the online banking service to manage my day to day transactions and transfers which i previously had no experience with as my wife did it all. But I've found it quite simple to use. All in all its a good account with decent services attached to it. I'm sure I will be using it for many years to come. Reviewed on: 10th February 2018

We love Nationwide

This bank have been fantastic with us, we have even opened savings accounts for our children as the rates are incredible. The staff in branches are always lovely too. Their banking app is safe, easy to use and the access to multiple accounts is simple and quick. Reviewed on: 6th March 2025

Good but room for improvement.

Good customer service both online and in lots of branches. Savings rates could do better. Also problems with an ISA transfer recently but finally sorted out. Reviewed on: 26th February 2025

If Carlsberg did banking...

So simple to move accounts. They kept me fully informed at all times. It integrates fully with my financial management system (Moneyhub). They have branches with real people who know what they are doing, and don't ask you to wait 5 weeks for an appointment. The statements are easy to find and use. I couldn't find a single fault, and they rewarded me for the move. Reviewed on: 26th February 2025

Still a mutual

Good customer service. Nationwide is still customer owned. One had £100 twice due to this. Best of all it retains high street branches which is important to many. Reviewed on: 26th February 2025
