Great service, excellent knowledge and family friendly staff

We were looking for a new mortgage and gave all of the ‘big’ lenders the opportunity to have our business. The only lender with a “can-do” approach and that wanted to talk face to face, understand our needs and how we wanted our mortgage to work was Newbury Building Society (Winchester). At every step they had all of the information we needed, explained everything to us and treated us as the most important clients they had ever had or would ever have. The mortgage staff were meticulous in every detail ensuring we were fully aware and involved in all of the decisions and what the decisions meant for us. The family-friendly nature of all of the staff in Winchester nailed it for us. We believed in them and the product because we felt like they listened and understood everything we needed our mortgage to do. Newbury Building Society put our faith back in the banking world and made us feel important at every step. We would recommend Newbury Building Society and there excellent staff without hesitation. Friendly, professional, local service

Wait Time

It took a long time to receive responses back regarding a retention which is a fairly important part of a mortgage since it meant we had to pay more upfront. Reviewed on: 15th November 2019

Helpful provider but could be more proactive

My rate was due to expire and Newbury got in contact well in advance which was great. I arranged a chat with them and the adviser was helpful although they were only able to offer me one option. They sent me through the details by post but there was no obvious way to accept the proposed new rate and no one contacted me for weeks afterwards. I ended up having to call Newbury the week before to ask how i could accept. It would have been more helpful to have a follow up call or to include the neccessary paperwork the first time rather than me needing to ring around to get it sorted on time. Other than that i'm happy with my provider and they are easy to use. Reviewed on: 15th November 2019

Friendly and helpful before and after completion

The staff were professional and polite

We applied for a small mortgage on a high value house (mortgage paid) to do some renovations on it. We were surprised that we were required by the building society to have a structural survey done as a condition of the mortgage at a cost of over £700, even though we already had the BS survey and a RICS survey in place. We also had to have our offer re submitted when a named occupant needed to sign the final forms All this took a long time and needed chasing up As mentioned the staff were curteous and helpful at all times. We have just paid off a large mortgage with Newbury Building Society but this loyalty did not prevent a protracted mortgage process. I would recommend you allow plenty of time to set up a mortgage as it takes months to complete. Reviewed on: 4th November 2019

Great Customer service, but expensive for mortgages

Have been with Newbury for several years, Always great customer service, phone answered by human, promptly and quick resolution to any issues. Just found could get a far cheaper mortgage elsewhere. Reviewed on: 4th November 2019
