I met staff of Newbury Building Society at Abingdon Air Show and liked the sound of the account which I subsequently opened in branch. The service I received in branch was very good and the whole process was very smooth. Since then I have used internet access which again is very user-friendly (I'm not computer-savvy, so need simple systems!). Reviewed on: 4th January 2018

Unacceptably slow

Opening a new Senior Saver account seemed to be quick and I could see it on line but it was several days before I was sent a secure message to say that the account had been approved. What was happening during that time when it seemed all to have been done during the online opening process. Why so slow when other organisations are instant. Also the account receives instant faster payments but the funds don't appear online until close of business. And why the 2 week delay before money can be withdrawn? All these seem traits of accounts in the 1970s not 2023 Reviewed on: 10th March 2023

Back office delays

Has taken six weeks to open and transfer an ISA due to NBS back office failures. Confusion as to whether NBS have funds or not. Have had to contact original ISA provider to resend information originally sent five weeks previously. Reviewed on: 9th March 2023

Slow to open account

Took a week to fully open the account. Confusing instructions regarding the need for a verfication code. My account was visible from day one despite the instruction 'If you are unable to see your savings accounts, this is because you have not yet entered your verification code. This is the final security check before you can manage your accounts and personal information online.' I tried twice to transfer money in and each time it was returned. However they did respond quickly when I messaged them about the problem, and their interest rates are competitive. Reviewed on: 8th March 2023
