Never again will I use PayPal credit

I am writing to raise a formal complaint regarding the handling of a recent payment on my PayPal Credit account. I made a payment of £1301.36 with the clear intention of paying off my 0% promotional balances under the 4-month offers before they expire. Despite this, PayPal chose to allocate part of this payment towards a separate balance that is subject to interest, leaving two of my promotional balances still outstanding. I contacted your support team promptly to request that this payment be reallocated to the promotional balances, especially as the payment had only just been made and had not yet left my bank account. However, this request was refused. The matter was then escalated to your complaints team, and I experienced multiple delays in receiving a response. After being delayed several times, I was ultimately given the same response without any meaningful attempt to resolve the issue or consider my circumstances. This situation has caused me significant stress, as I took care to ensure sufficient funds were available specifically to clear these promotional balances and avoid interest. I find it extremely frustrating that I have not been given flexibility over how my own payment is applied. I would like to formally request that this matter is reviewed again and that you reconsider reallocating the payment to the 0% promotional balances, or provide a clear explanation as to why this cannot be done in my case. Based on this experience, I am seriously considering no longer using PayPal Credit and instead moving to alternative providers such as Klarna, who allow customers to choose how their payments are allocated. Please treat this as a formal complaint. Reviewed on: 7th April 2026
