No hassle No problems with Saga at all. Easy to deal with. Slightly pricier than expected. No claim so can't comment regarding claims or disputes. Reviewed on: 8th February 2026

I developed lower back pain and sciatica after a very uncomfortable flight. Within 48 hours I had difficulty walking at all. My partner explained this to the local chemist who provided anti-inflammatory medication that did not help. After using it for 48 hours I phoned Saga health insurance. The first person I spoke to seemed helpful making sure I understood I had to approach a state medical facility here in Spain. He emailed me a list of suitable facilities. All of them turned out to be private health facilities. I phoned again and spoke to a very helpful lady who seemed much better informed. But it became very clear that I was expected to use my EHIC card and get clearance from Saga for any treatment that was going to cost money. A number of hoops had to be jumped through including giving permission to get my medical records from my Dr back in the UK just in case I was going to claim for a condition I had not told Saga about. Clearly Saga were looking for any possible loophole to avoid payment. When you are in pain and unable to move more than a few steps, how was I to get to a state hospital? I was told to get a Drs report for anything that might not be covered by the EHIC card. In short I felt that the onus was on me to do everything. What did I expect? I expected a very expensive insurance to smooth the way and sort things out for me when I needed help. In the end I had to pay for a private Dr to visit me at home and give me support. Saga medical insurance had also been quick to tell me that the first amount of £70 had to be paid by me. Would they have paid the rest? Too many reports in the press have shown unsatisfactory performance by travel health insurance providers. I am sorry to conclude that I do not trust Saga Travel Health Insurance to help me when I need help. The forensic attention to paperwork could come later. My needs should have come first, that’s what I paid for, rather than me being expected to arrange everything myself. Reviewed on: 15th March 2024

As I am 80 years old I booked insurance with them at great cost. I trusted their name and what a big mistake this was. Unfortunately I had a fall and was concerened about concussion as i vomited a few days later. They told me they would book a dcotor to come after waiting nearly 2hours this changed to a video consultation and then the doctor did not even join the video call. After half an hour on hold I rang Saga to be told just go to A&E. The doctor service is apparently nothing to do with them so nothing they can do!!! I left and went to A&E and after almost an hour the doctor joined the caht whivch my friend ansered he told them it was unacceptable and was told what are you going to do? I would give a zero score if it was possible. Disgusting service Unhelpful call answerers and they merely delayed any help I needed by hours. Do not waste your money on this Reviewed on: 24th February 2024

I’ve had two recent experiences one to claim a refund on a cancellation which was dealt with excellently ,efficiently and without fuss and 2nd to renew my policy after having recovered from the illness (which was complicated ) in order to assess the type of policy again , smooth sailing. , Excellent customer service, especially from Darren, who finalised my policy . Well done saga, you have a customer for life. Reviewed on: 18th January 2024

Excellent service from Saga Travel Insurance

My husband recently had a heart attack while we were on holiday in Spain. He is a very fit active man who had received no prior signs or warning of this attack but just a slight flutter feeling in his chest which he dismissed as wind or a strain. However,I wasn’t happy & suggested we attend the local hospital emergency department to get checked out where unfortunately much to our surprise following some tests my husband was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit HCB hospital where he received outstanding medical care. We were both in total shock as he required further intensive detailed & complex medical investigations & insertion of cardiac stents. As we had an Annual Saga travel insurance I contacted them to advise of our situation & the medical treatment my husband was going to require . A lady called Laura answered my call (I was quite emotional relaying what had happened to my husband)she responded to me in a very empathetic , caring & calm manner reassuring me that she would help to provide support once I had answered some relevant questions & following a medical report from my husbands Doctor General Practitioner which I understood as standard procedure. Throughout my dealings with Laura she communicated throughout & was very informative, supportive & caring asking how my husband was doing & also how I was coping reassuring me that Saga insurance would ensure we would be looked after & even assist us with our journey home if required. Saga paid for all my husbands hospital stay & medical treatments. Another lady called Lisa also contacted me following my husband’s discharge from hospital asking how we both were & if we required assistance to travel back to our home in the Channels Islands. The service provided by our Saga Annual Travel was outstanding & following our experience I cannot recommend them highly enough. We were in a strange setting away from our home without any support & the service, support & care we received from the Saga team was gold standard & we wish to say a very big thank you to both ladies that helped us to negotiate our way through a very stressful, emotional situation. Thank you & best wishes Elizabeth & Michael S. Reviewed on: 10th January 2024

Waste of time for elderly peoples insurance

1
I chose saga travel insurance with it being for older people that they would know how to look after people especially with the prices they charge. We went away after booking with them but unfortunately my husband lost his hearing aid, when we contacted them we were informed we were not covered for this which amazed me as most people that go with this company do so as they are meant to be for older people Reviewed on: 26th December 2023

pay out is absolutely minimal

Saga travel states it does not replace new for old. BEWARE it doesn't even get close! I claimed for a ca £400.00 ipad plus £37.00 case both of which were 4 years old. I received ca £150.00 in settlement ca £220.00 for the ipad+cover less the £70.00 excess. I simply cannot afford to replace my ipdad as result. Reviewed on: 2nd December 2023

A total shambolic and dysfunctional company

1
A total shambolic and dysfunctional company. Do not use them for travel insurance. They have managed to leave my elderly parents stuck in Majorca for 4 weeks now after my Dad was cleared to come home from hospital. And the previous claim for a cancelled holiday due to my Dads illness took them 4 months to process and pay out. Reviewed on: 10th November 2023

Do not use their holiday insurance.

Had faith until taken ill and needed to make claims. Then it showed policy is worthless. They use on Astrenska, who use Collinson Insurance to handle claims. They don't answer the phone but text you to go on line. Finally got paper copies, sent back 9 May. Suddenly email on 23 may for more information. They received it 25 May. Since then nothing. No replies to my emails, or letters. No updates. Suggest you look at reviews on COLLINSON Insurance company. Saga say they are short of staff When needed, found to be wanting. Take heed. Saga still pushing these policies. And a line in their quote, says how easy it is for you to process a claim. BE WARNED . Reviewed on: 14th June 2023

Fully covered

This is the only policy, I feel, that makes it clear what is covered in a way that can be understood. Worth the money for peace of mind. Reviewed on: 4th June 2023
