Review of the Santander, Mortgage:

Worst Company Ever! Avoid if you are a first time buyer

My Partner and myself recently applied to Santander for a new mortgage on the help to buy scheme for new build properties. They gave us a promise that their is no problems whatsoever and we can proceed to find a new build property. after we have found the new-build, our dream house that ticketed all the boxes, we proceeded to complete the mortgage application. After an initial yes, and got all the other paperwork and solicitors and everything else in order, paid for the survey and all these things, they suddenly withdrawn the mortgage. just like that! It was not a affordability issue or a credit issue. after a lot of fighting with them we eventually find out that the underwrites had the wrong address history and they could not find us on the credit file and then declined it on that basis. The address was correctly given on the application paperwork. it is clear that someone in administration has made an error and typed 54 in stead of 45. Stander will not review or accept the appeal. "they sympathise with our situation and can clearly see that it was a innocent clerical error however we can not appeal the decision. Our decision is final and it is because of the incorrect address history" Even though it was their error, they refuse to take another look at his application. We also are not getting any money back. WE have lost £1000's in fees both with the solicitors and the builders that we are not getting back, and we have lost our house because the builders does not want to wait for a new mortgage application being done with a new lender. Because the computer is saying "no" because the computer was given inaccurate information Santander says NO. Even-though they have acknowledge that there was an error, they still say no. Never in my Life have I dealt with an company that was so in-human and bullying as Santander. I am at a loss for words to the this. If you are a first time buyer, please avoid like the plague, they will cost you a lot of money that you may not have and will take you years to save up again. Very Difficult to Deal With

Don't even THINK about using this company for your mortgage!! We sold our house in Feb. & the loan was paid off the same day the next payment was due. They drafted the payment anyway & refused to reverse it. It's now over 30 days since the closing & we're still waiting for that refund. They sent a letter last week which had to be signed & returned verifying our new address... this was covered at the closing! We finally received the escrow refund just yesterday. Why didn't they issue 1 check for both items? Because they'll make money off OUR money (which is over $4,000). When we initially refied this loan to remodel, they were horrible to deal with & it took forever to get the loan approved which delayed construction over a month. Since we already had a mortgage with them & always made payments on time, there was no reason for such a hassle. I wish I could leave less than a 1 star rating because they're the worst lender ever!! Poor communication, huge delays.

Avoid like the plague

Buyers lender uses santander we got to exchange and completion date, told money had been received we were all good to go. Packed up my entire house went to new property etc, only to be told there was a delay with exchange and that the mortgage application had been sent to the valuer, 45 mins later we are told santander have requested a return of funds and wernt prepared to lend. Absolute nightmare and costly... we lost our sale and purchase. We will never ever accept a offer from anyone who uses santander as their lender in the future. Be warned! Zero Rating! Avoid at all cost!

Possibly the worst experience ever. They have a service level agreement on their website which they set themselves yet fail to deliver on. We have lost our dream home because of the time they had taken to approve a mortgage following a valuation, it should not take more than 4 weeks to make a decision following a valuation it's absolutely ridiculous! I would avoid this lender at all cost unless you have all the time in the world to wait for a decision!! Absolutely ZERO Rating Reviewed on: 2nd December 2021

Joke of a bank

7 weeks into our application for a relatively small loan on our mortgage (with a good proportion of equity) and we are still being asked stupid questions and being sent back and forth between the underwriters and info gathering team. We have been to the underwriters 4 times now, every time we need to provide more information we go to the back of the que and have to wait 9 days just for them to review the new information!!!! Cannot escalate a complaint apparently as online applications have no way of doing this. Rude unhelpful staff who sound peeved you dare to call. Sorted our loan out with Nationwide within a couple of days and told santander where to stick it. Certainly wont be remortgaging with them when the time comes and i will be switching my other accounts!!! Reviewed on: 14th November 2021

Wrong evaluation

After having my mortgage amended to another property and approved. Santander after 6 weeks evaluated the previous property instead of the current one im buying. The stress and delays is affecting my mental health. I get pushed from one advisor to another. Nobody takes any ownership. You might think you are getting a good rate trust me it isnt worth it. They dont care about you

They do not care about you They do not care about you! Avoid at all costs. I'm being made homeless on Friday due to the amount of time being taken by Santander. I started my house move process in May. Got my final bit to sign from the solicitors in August. Told my landlord i would be out on 22/10/2021. He now has tenants moving in on that date. I have no family or friends to stay with and any money i do have now will now need to be spent on a hotel while all my possessions sit in my van outside. I just called and explained my situation again and got hung up on. I've gone to write this review and did not realise how bad the reviews are for Santander. They are shocking! I feel sick from the worry of being out on the streets. And seeing these reviews scare the life out of me. Sort it out Santander either get more staff or only take on more work when you have enough people to work it. Reviewed on: 20th October 2021

Waste of time and avoid at all costs as they will rip you off

Avoid a mortgage with these people as they will 100% try and rip you off and just because they have nice suits and offices, does not mean they are not utter scam merchants. beware and spend some time looking at alternatives and it will save you "£1000's in the long term Reviewed on: 24th September 2021

Bad service and no one cares

I am trying to get an additional loan on my property and the underwriters are asking silly question one month into the process it still hasn't progressed. Why can't they just call me is could be sorted in miniutes not months. The online portal says they will get back to you with in one day, forget is you won't hear back from them for days if at all.
