I turned to step change in 2020 my marriage had bro...

I turned to step change in 2020 my marriage had broken down , and I was left with a lot of debts so I owed about 16000, at the time, iv been able to put all my debts as one payment, so far iv payed just over 6,000 pounds in the last 5 years I'm glad I did turn to step change, they have helped me sort out my debts and now iv been able to sleep at night Reviewed on: 24th May 2025

A friendly, empathetic service

I came to StepChange at a very low point. I was ashamed of the debt I had built up and ashamed that I was failing to manage it on my own. However, StepChange were very compassionate and understanding, and they helped me to get a plan in place to start paying my debts off with monthly payments through a Debt Management Plan. I really appreciated the advisor's attitude, candour and friendly helpful service. I really can't thank StepChange enough and I would encourage anyone struggling with debts to speak to them. Step Change are a life saver

At a time when we were deeply in debt, my husband was in hospital, the creditors were sending letters Step Change gave the assurance they were there to assist. That took a weight off our shoulders knowing we didn't have to deal directly with our creditors. Reviewed on: 30th July 2022

Ability to live again without the constant worries

I unfortunately run up over £25,000 in debt and was at a point that whatever I did I still couldn’t meet the payments. Having nearly lost all hope and was suffering from stress and sleepless nights I finally contacted StepChange who has not only supported me in setting up a debt management plan with my creditors, it provides me with really helpful tips on how to save money but also provide non judgmental advice. This gave me the hope and skills to take ownership of my budget and have set goals each month. I can update my plan at anytime so if circumstances change I don’t have to worry about it. Fantastic and so helpful- I cannot recommend enough!

From my first call many years ago to the pending close of my plan later this year, Step Change have always been there. They handle all of the creditors and payments and all you need to do is keep them informed, make a monthly payment and review once a year. Excellent non-judgemental support

Saved my sanity

I had bank overdraft debt and credit card debts and lost my job and had to take on a lower paid job to keep family together,but I was having real anxiety depression over threats of bailiffs etc. Saw an advert for Step Change and they saved my sanity and family by agreeing a DMP with me and creditors and have now nearly repaid my debts. Support Always

I was very worried about approaching total strangers about my personal debts they weren't drastic but I needed help. Stepchange were amazing from the first phone call. I was made to feel at ease and not as if I had done something wrong. They explained the different plans available for various types and amounts of debt and explained fully the plan they thought would be best for me and would not leave me robbing Peter to pay Paul as they say. They support you throughout your plan and are always there if you need help. They are understanding,very knowledgeable about debt plans,explain thoroughly in a way that you can understand. They stay in touch with with lots of useful advice and help managing your plan online and doing reviews. I am truly very glad I found Stepchange. I am now managing my debt with confidence and it has made my life a lot less stressful. Lifesaving support

When I was at my lowest ebb after my husband left me, I was signposted to step change. I was advised to open a debt management plan, it is my lifesaver, literally.
