Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I first contacted StepChange in 2020 - right after covid hit. Everyone I've spoken to at every step (no pun intended) of the way have been kind, supportive and non-judgemental. When completing your expense forms, they won't treat you harshly or question your habits, but they will be fantastically supportive and helpful. StepChange suggested I did an IVA, but for various reasons I didn't want to do that - the choice was mine and I wasn't forced into doing anything I didn't want to. Step change are life savers..

Amazing customer service

I was continually struggling with trying to make even minimum payments on my credit cards.i entered everything I could think of that I needed to pay out each month and Stepchange agreed a payment amount equalling what was left over. They took over my debts and contacted all the relevant companies to arrange a payment. The stress was limited immediately and 1 year on I was able to renew my plan even though I had to increase outgoing s. The staff are very considerate and non judgemental when you speak to them.
