Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Breathing Space

Before contacting Step Change, I felt like I was drowning in debt. I honestly was beside myself. I went onto the Step Change website not knowing what lay ahead. I filled out a straight forward form with about my situation. After a few days Step Change got back to me with a Debt Management Plan. For a fixed sum each month all of my creditors will be paid. I feel so relieved that I won't be being hounded by these companies now. Step Change has given me a lifeline. The best help and support!

Setting up a DMP with Stepchange was so simple, the website was very user friendly and all the steps were straightforward. There's no need to be on the phone for hours anymore as almost everything you need to do/change/update/give more details on, can all be done via the website or email. They remind you about additional steps you can take such as breathing space but you don't receive constant reminders or pushy emails and you can take the application at your own pace so you don't feel rushed. All my options, pros and cons were laid out clearly to help me make the best decision based on my personal situation.
