Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Help when needed, from Day 1 onwards.

They have been very helpful from Day 1, particularly in providing direct advice on doing things like annual reviews, which can be a bit complex, and in handling notification of changes in the companies that are handling your debts. All of this has been very helpful and enabled me to make informed choices, but has also made it feel a lot less like I was caring a huge load! Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

They listened, provided help and never judged me

I was feeling desperate and depressed with the pressure of my debts. I spoke to Step Change. That call was life changing. They listened carefully and never judged. The gave me options and explained the process for each. They had a recommendation for the direction I should take. Amazing they contacted all the people I owed money too. The accruing interest was stopped and an affordable repayment plan which was affordable to me was arranged. As my circumstances have change, so has my income and expenditure. They were thereto review the changes and make recommendations to amend the amount I pay each month. No further contact with the companies I owe money to. Everything is through StepChange. No nasty letters, no demanding phone calls. I am paying my debts back at a rate affordable to me. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

Sleep again...

Talking to these people save your mind the sleep comes back so no more 10 times a night waking and thinking bad things.Thank god they were there for me. I never thought my life will be safe again. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026
