Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Light at the end of the tunnel!

I couldn’t escape paying the minimum payments on cards & credit accounts & never clearing any of my debts. It was getting to the point where I was struggling to even pay that. I was constantly worried about making payments & it was overwhelming. In desperation, after seeing Martin Lewis mention Stepchange I nervously contacted them. I shouldn’t have worried because the person, I spoke to was kind, passed no judgement but listened & suggested a DMP was the way forward. After completing a budget form & working out what I could repay they contacted my creditors to halt interest & work out a plan with them. I’d never have cleared any of these debts on my own. I’m eternally grateful that now my debts are virtually cleared & I can see a debt free future ahead. Reviewed on: 24th May 2025

I was in a world if bother with debt and burying my head in the sand and just wracking up more and more. I got to a point where I didn't know what to do as I couldn't afford the repayments and my living costs. The payments I was making were only clearing that months interest. I came across Stepchange and plucked up the courage to call them. I was expecting to be judged amd made to feel silly for the situation I'd got myself in. I couldn't have been more wrong. Unfortunately the name of the person I spoke to escapes me, but he was so empathetic and understanding of my situation. He explained everything and supported me putting an affordable repayment plan in place. It's the best financial decision I have made in years speaking to Stepchange. Less than 9 months on and I've cleared £6000 of my debt and the interest on all but one of Mt debts has been frozen. For the first time in years I'm making progress with getting myself out of the mess I find myself in. I would highly recommend that if you're struggling with debt, to speak to stepchange.
