Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

A LIGHT AT THE END OF A VERY LONG STRESSFUL TUNNEL .

Was very frightened and ashamed after becoming into a lot of debt did not know where to turn or do. Was advised to contact Step change. I was treated with great respect and welcome with them. They quided me in the right direction and helped me get my confidence back again. I have a lot to thank them for. I am near the end of my debt now and over the years they have keep me right I cannot thank them enough.. its so good to feel I have paid off most of all I owed with your help. THANK YOU. My call was answered quickly, the customer service person was attentive, and empathetic.i was offered choices and help when I was in despair. It took my pressure off and I put in place a plan that has given me peace and one I can manage and am committed to. Reviewed on: 24th May 2025

I can now sleep at nights.

I have suffered from depression since being diagnosed with PTSD in 1989. Life finally got on top of me, and my general health started to deteriorate as well, when I found I couldn't cope with my financial situation - I was out of work through illness and couldn't find another job because of my age, nearly 70. I was juggling credit cards just to pay the rent, let alone other expenses. I couldn't sleep, and if I did, I awoke in the early hours in a panic. I turned to Stepchange after seeing it recommended on the Martin Lewis website. They have taken control of my debts (made interest free), and I now pay a manageable sum monthly to my creditors. It's a relatively simple process. Simply produce a budget and they do the rest by dealing with the banks. I can now sleep at nights. Reviewed on: 24th May 2025
