Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

The hardest thing for me to do was pick up the phone and ask for help. I shouldn’t have worried as the first lady I spoke to was so kind, empathetic and understanding. After that everyone was so helpful. They listened to my struggles and to why I was in a financial mess and very slowly helped me to form a debt management plan. I cannot emphasise how much of a relief it was to know someone was willing to help me, and that I just needed to make one monthly payment to cover all my debts. I got myself in to a bad situation and didn't know which way to turn. After looking and speaking to a few companies I decided to go with step change as they were most helpful and gave me all the information I needed to feel confident in them helping me find a way out and gave me a few options and let me choose the best one for me. Helpful and very professional.

Helpful and very professional. the initial response can be informative on what you need to hand, ie, income outgoings and debts. From about a 20 to 40 minutes discussion, could come up with a possible solution, at all times you are given choices and advice before any commitment. Try a phone call? Reviewed on: 27th May 2026
