Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Can't recommend enough. Gave me my quality of life back

I felt overwhelmed before using Stepchange. Just getting ahead of one debt and 2 others get behind aswell as general living expenses. After using step change, the debt monthly repayment reduced to one manageable sum, the letters and phone calls stopped so my mental health and general quality of life improved. Thank u for Solution focused payment plan

Imagine working full time but due to circumstances beyond your control you are barely breaking even and any e tra bill tips you into the red. You look for help and end up with a bank that repayments have finished you off … so you work hard but you can’t sort out your finances . I was a desperate hardworking professional and until I found Step change I was unable to move forward financially as I was drowning slowly and the stress was going to affect my job which holds slot of responsibility. Financial issues affect all sorts of people . What is difficult for those who are working is nothing offers relief or practical help . Step change gave me options for the first time! Step change gave me advice that helped, Step change gave me time to look closely at my finances and we’re not judgemental but solution focussed. I felt for the first time that I could be in control and set up a payment plan that actually worked for me and those I needed to pay. Now I am down to one payment . Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Suicidal to living again.

StepChange made me change from suicidal to supported with a plan to follow. I have been with them 4 years now with 2 to go until I am debt free. The budget they drew up for me took into account the costs of my therapy dog (I thought he would have to go back to the charity that brought him into my life) and, after a long period of illness and being in hospital, reviewed my budget to allow me 2 carers which the NHS had been supplying but lost when I was discharged back into community care. Path forward.

I was scared and overwhelmed having been left with a debt mountain by my husband.I was left to bring the children up with limited means and debt..The debt demands were stressful. I took them to step change who helped negotiate a way forward. 9 years on I've nearly paid my debt off and can see a brighter future..My advice would be to face the debt with an advisor and be realistic on a way through it. Excellent service

I didn’t feel happy with my debts and it was embarrassing contacting stepchange but I’m so glad I did. Everyone I have spoken to has been so friendly and I never felt judged they understood what I was feeling and helped with by taking control of my debts and they contacted all my creditors which took away my stress.
