Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

They got me out of catalog debt trap

I had £7k debt across several catalog companies and the interest was crippling. StepChange were calm, kind and never judged me. They explained all my options and set up a Debt Management Plan. My creditors have frozen interest and I now pay one affordable amount each month. The phone calls and letters have stopped. If you’re lying awake worrying about catalog or store card debt, call them. Stepchange. Life savers for me.

I turned to Stepchange 3-4 years ago when I was at my wits end with escalating interest on my outstanding debt. I had serious health issues, mobility and mentally. I was in a deep depression, knowing there was no way out, and I started having really bad thoughts. I was introduced to Stepchange and given a genuine lifeline, where they assured me "Not to worry, things will be fine" and sure enough I pay a small amount each month and started to believe I could get through this. I still worry but nothing like I had done in the past. I still have a marriage and a life, which is down to Stepchange. My advice is don't be alone in debt and seek help. Reviewed on: 8th May 2026

Discovering Stepchange was life-changing. Lost earnings during lockdown meant I couldn't keep up with credit card payments and then interest piled on making it completely unmanageable.
