Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Lifesaver.

Over many years, first as CCCS, then as Stepchange, the organisation has supported me in dealing with what seemed an insupportable debt burden acquired during an undiagnosed mental illness. Although the telephone waiting can seem a little onerous, it is always worth it for the supportive advice and, most of all, taking on all contact with my creditors. I might never have recovered, and creditors might never have been paid, if it was not for the support from Stepchange. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Highly recommend!

After both my partner and I being made redundant, finances quickly spiralled downward. After struggling to manage and the situation reaching an overwhelming crisis point, I contacted Step Change. The relief following my call was immense! I felt heard, understood and supported. The help was so practical and it was immediate. That phone call was long, but they went through all my finances with me thoroughly and a payment plan was set up. I had complete control, they just guided and advised. We agreed on an affordable monthly repayment. The intimidating letters stopped, interest was frozen in most cases and we felt like we had regained control. The plan is reviewed regularly and can be changed to suit any shifting circumstances. It got us out lives back and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

A real life saver

We had major debts and were really struggling to see a way we could cope. Having a debt management plan gave us affordable repayments and we are now 18 months away from being debt free with a decent credit rating. It has also taught us to reserve credit and loans for essential things only. We don’t have overdrafts and we are now able to get credit when we really need it. For example for a new car that we need for work. We are now much better at budgeting and only spending what we have.
