Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I really had got myself into trouble with money.

I really had got myself into trouble with money. I was living off of credit for day to day living. I didn't think I had anywhere to turn to. Then I stumbled across stepchange. It took a while for me to go with them. Then I rang them and it was the best decision I've ever made. I will have payed off all my debt in November this year. So happy and relieved. Wish I did it sooner

Loss of a partner

I recently lost my partner and we had a joint account with stepchange. They were very helpful and sympathetic with my situation and paused my account for three months so i could have a break and get things sorted. Relaxed conversation with all assistants.

Relaxed conversation with all assistants. Took me from panic to “at ease” quite quickly. Simple instructions with common sense advice. Regain control

In crisis I spoke to a woman called Gerry, I remember crying to her and saying is this going to be the rest of my life I’m so overwhelmed. She told me to take a deep breath and she said this is the beginning of the rest of your life. And it really was. The moment I took out the plan and gained control things started to change for the better for me. Now a few years later I’m a home owner, I have been able to have another baby and not worry about finances and I am most importantly I am in control. I will never forget Gerry and her help.
