Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I was deep in debt with no way out my mental health was suffering and i just had no hope until i got in touch with step change they helped me set up a monthly payment plan that has helped me massively and im looking forward now with a better mindset Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Wish I'd called them sooner! But glad I did!

I was completely unable to manage my debts and I couldn't tell my partner because they were ill. I contacted Stepchange and they were kind to me - plus they deal with all the creditors, so that I don't have to experience that pressure. I can now live within a budget so that I know I will be able to manage once they are paid off from my debt management plan - 2 years ago I was putting the family food shop on a credit card because the repayments on that card took all my budget, it was a horrible spiral and now I have no credit card and an affordable way to live. The support I got from Stepchange was fantastic.

The support I got from Stepchange was fantastic. I felt like I was drowning when was trying to deal with the debt myself. A friend signposted me to Stepchange, I was able to relax more in regards to my debts, knowing I was getting the support and not keep getting reminders to pay.
