Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I finally got a grip of my debts.

I finally got a grip of my debts. Having just one payment to make really helps mentally. Customer care has been really supportive when I've needed it. I can finally see an end point and it's a great feeling. It's a really easy process once you have all your debt information to hand. A yearly review makes sure that you can still afford the payment, if not it will be adjusted. Honestly, it's one of the best things I've done for myself. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

Debt solution

I trust StepChange totally.

I trust StepChange totally. I was in freefall with mounting debts and it was all I thought about, leaving me stressed, dizzy and not knowing what to do. I called StepChange and the advisor I spoke to made me feel comfortable enough to tell my story. Instead of being embarrassing the process was cathartic. After going through my household budget we were able to come up with a payment plan (a Debt Management Plan - DMP) so all my creditors would receive a monthly payment. I cried when the process was complete and had a full night's sleep for the first time in months. I receive a monthly statement and I'm able to review the budget and DMP periodically to ensure I'm managing. If you're struggling then StepChange will help you take control. Saviour from bankruptcy....

StepChange have saved me potentially from losing my home and assets by setting up a debt management plan, when the current cost of living crisis hit. I was unfortunate to have an accident at work, which left me with a spinal injury and unable to continue to be employed. Having to rely on payments from the welfare system, to live and pay for everything, including a mortgage, house maintenance, bills and adaptive equipment to make my home safe for me to live in. I have being able to meet every payment on the Debt Management Plan, with advise and understanding of my situation from StepChange. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

I had never ever defaulted on a monthly payment but never less I was struggling only paying the minimum ! taking repayment holidays moving debts from one credit card to another! But I couldnt see how to get myself out this mess! so I finally got in touch with Step Change first online as I felt embarrassed! But Staff at StepChange are wonderful ! They will help you create a budget deal with your creditors! Look it will take time and you will have change your spending habits ! But I am no longer jugging debts ! and feeling anxious!
