Review of the Swinton Insurance, Car insurance:

If I could give them ZERO I would

1
I have used Swinton on and off for the past 25 years so was happy to take car insurance with them in November 2023. In July 2024 we moved house and as you do started notifying change of address. So I dutifully did with Swinton. That's when the nightmare began. Spoke to Toby and explained I needed to change the address only on my motor policy. So he asked all the relevant questions and said he needed to submit it to the underwriters to see if there would be a increase in the premium. He came back and mumbled something about a rejection code as the area was unacceptable. I asked him what he meant by that and he couldn't answer. Now the area I moved to has high end value houses in a semi rural location, certainly not a crime hotspot! He put me on to Lindi who just kept stating the area was unacceptable but I can cancel this policy and they would put me with a new company. Why, I asked? Please tell me why this area is unacceptable? She just kept saying the insurance company stated it was not an acceptable area. I asked her to verify who the insurance company was. AGEAS came the reply. I was stunned. We have a second car, insured by my wife, and she successfully changed the address the day before with no additional premium. It is insured through AGEAS!! Her reply was genuinely incoherent by which time my wife had entered the room curious why I was on the phone so long and started listening to the what was happening. I asked to speak to a supervisor for an explanation. I got Karen. I explained what had happened and wanted an explanation why two people living at the same address received such polar opposite responses. Again she appeared not to understand and stuck to the script of it being an unacceptable area. I recall saying regardless that my wife lives in the same house and that AGEAS accepted she is in an acceptable area (no additional premium) but Swinton say it's not. All she did was keep offering me a new policy with a different company or a cancellation of the policy. I asked for quotes for a new policy with a different insurance company, however her eventual reply was that none would insure me. As my wife was simultaneously obtaining quotations from a comparison website this was obviously another blatant lie. I believe this is the procedure when a customer won't change to another company to build Swinton's revenue stream. They get booted. Needless to say the policy with Swinton is now cancelled. I urge everyone to avoid this company at all costs. I dread to think what may have happened if I had ever had to make a claim through Swinton. Reviewed on: 5th July 2024

Scammers!

Just a bunch of scammers. The experience was cost me 635 pounds. Stay away from the Muppets. Reviewed on: 3rd May 2020

Appalling service

1
Swinton insurance turned out to be a nightmare even before the insurance kicked in. Due an error, of which we had no part whatsoever, Swinton made upsetting and urgent demands the night before Christmas, threatened repeatedly to cancel our insurance, and made changes to our no claims history to a period before we became their clients. Throughout our interactions with the company, customer service has proven to be unreasonable and unfriendly. Overall, becoming Swinton's clients has proven to be a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Terrible Company To Deal With When Car Is Stolen

1
Terrible Company! I will never use Swinton Car Insurance Company again. I had a BMW stolen in June. They didn't really do anything other than chase money from me. The underwriter were great and done everything they needed to. Swinton on the other hand decide to chase me for £285 when I only had £160 left to pay on the policy. I've paid the full amount to get rid of these pests but will never use them again. I would seriously consider not using them as if you have a car stolen you won't get any support or courtesy car and all they will do is hound you for your money. Reviewed on: 22nd January 2020

Great insurance package

5
Great insurance package but ensure you do not just let them renew your policy without calling them for a better quote. They emailed to say thank you for renewing and I called as I compared other prices and they were too high and I got the exact same package as I was renewing for over £125 less per year. A pretty good choice

This provider has been good at paying out (I was hit by a lorry while parked and someone hit the back of my car in traffic) but the parent increase is quite large for accidents where you're not at fault. the main issue is they won't insure learners on the same policy which makes it difficult to practice. Efficient and thorough

I felt the quote they offered me was fair and competitive. As a customer, I felt valued. Their manner was professional yet friendly. Reviewed on: 15th July 2019

Re-newal

The only company that did not raise it's prices at re-newal time and were the cheapest. Reviewed on: 18th April 2019
