Issues switching deals

I’ve been with Virgin Money for many years and previously found the mortgage product switch process straightforward and efficient. Unfortunately, this has changed significantly. I repeatedly select the online product switch option and explicitly choose for the (already very high) product fee to be added to the loan. At the point of submission, there is no indication that anything is wrong. Several days later, however, I receive an SMS stating that the switch cannot proceed unless the product fee is paid upfront. This outcome contradicts the option I selected during the online process. Crucially, customers are not provided with any confirmation or saved record of the options selected during submission — there is no summary page, no downloadable copy, and no audit trail showing which boxes were ticked. This makes it impossible for the customer to verify or evidence that they did not choose the upfront-payment option the bank later claims was selected. I contacted Virgin Money by phone and was advised how to complete the process correctly, which I already do. Despite following these instructions and resubmitting multiple times within a very limited switching window, the same issue continues to occur. This forces customers into unnecessary phone calls and delays and risks them missing narrow product-switch windows, potentially at significant financial cost. Whether this is due to poor system design or a systemic flaw, the process is opaque and unfair to customers. I am extremely disappointed. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Virgin Money as a lender. Reviewed on: 8th February 2026

Awful awful customer service

A mortgage is a mortgage. This review is about how impossible it is to get through to someone when remortgaging. Their website is a joke. Their live chat doesnt work. it is impossible to get through on the phone numbers provided. As poor an experience as could be. Reviewed on: 10th June 2025

Took over £1000 in error from us

Virgin mortgages took £1,169.30 in error from my current account. No apology, no compensation. We are now in are over draft and after trying to get through 3 times, finally we’re told it was a glitch in their system and it would be refunded in 10 working days. Not good enough. Loss for words

I will never use Virgin Mortgages again and will NEVER recommend. My husband has the mortgage of our home in his name solely. We would like me adding to it. No additional borrowing. They have now decided that our 2 incomes As opposed to just his one means we now can’t afford it! How is this even possible!! A total shambles. DO NOT USE Reviewed on: 9th June 2023

They are ok

Worst mortgage company ever

This company offers the worst service possible impossible to get in touch with them via the phone lines are still closed at 09:30 when online it says open at 08:00 and they never respond to any of your queries unless you keep chasing them.
