Bank not transparent with their lending criteria

The bank did not disclose at the outset what type of property they would not lend on. Basically if their surveyor did not like the decor then he would give a bad report and the bank would not lend. All this and 4 months of them faffing about with the application and having told us its 99% certain that they would lend us the finance, and we had spent money on legal fees, private surveys etc based on their assurances. As a first time buyer, I felt completely in the dark when it came to applying for a mortgage. Add in help to buy, a new build, and buying off plan and the situation was overwhelmingly. A gentleman called Thomas from Barclays did my first affordability checks over the phone and later on my mortgage application. Thomas was a saint dealing with my million questions, his patience was unending. He was completely knowledgeable, and hand held me through the process, he was positive thr... I'm on an excellent fixed rate. Get a monthly cash reward for banking, insuring and using a mortgage from barclays. Great customer service the few times I've needed it too. Oh and their app is excellent. Reviewed on: 23rd January 2019
