Insurance a rip off I spent $12,500 on a trip that I needed to cancel due to physical injury. I only put $5500 of that on my Barclay's mastercard. They refused to pay me ... Read more Reviewed on: 6th August 2024

Scam

Paid travel insurance by direct debit. Barclays kept taking the money for two years while unbeknown to me I was no longer covered because I had turned 80. The confirmation of cover letter sent for my years cover just before I turned 80 had my birth date in the middle of the letter so I assumed I was still covered. They have now confirmed that I have not been covered for the last two years despite charging me, but will not refund the money. A total scam. Reviewed on: 30th November 2021

Barclays travel insurance total scam

I singed up for the Barclays travel pack insurance 3-4 years ago and I was paying monthly through direct debit. I signed up to this insurance after I was convinced by Barclays customer service at the branch that I will never be let down and I will have peace of mind if I will face any problems with any of my flight tickets abroad. I didn’t make any claim and neither benefited from this insurance in the past. However, I convinced myself every time I book flight tickets that my bank insurance will cover me if I will face any issue’s. Few days ago both myself and my little child missed our return flight to England due to reasons out of our control. So I had to book oneway tickets and I had to stay in the airport and wait the whole day to catch the second scheduled flight. Anyhow. Upon my return I contacted the Barclays travel insurance and spoke to the their poor customer service who informed me over the phone after few questions that I’m not covered because my incident story it doesn’t fall under their category and I should have informed her different story. I had all the evidence and bookings to proof that my claim is legitimate. However, obviously she was asking me to lie in order for me to get my money back. What their customer service will do to you when you make a claim is they will ask you few tricky questions and they try to lead you to say something which will give them excuses not to cover your loss. They are scammers. please do not let them fool you and convince you to sign up for their insurance because they will take your money and give you nothing in return. They will let you down when you need them. not recommended at all. I wish I could give them 0 stars instead of One. Reviewed on: 4th November 2021

Emergency Flights Refund

While visiting my daughter I got caught out by Mexico being put on the UK's travel red list, and as BA wanted to charge me £7K for changing my flight I had to find another way back. I was doubtful that Barclays would reimburse me as the foreign office advice is rather ambiguous (though visiting a child was specified as OK at one point) but I put my case to Barclays calmly and truthfully (explaining that they could subtract my still usable inbound flight) and they reimbursed me (minus the excess of course). Shocking Service

I had Travel Pack added to my current account about 3 years ago. I pay by monthly direct debit. However when I wanted to make a claim for a coronavirus related cancellation, I realised that I had no policy documents. Apparently, Barclays don’t do policy numbers, etc. I was directed to Aviva as their insurance provider. Aviva prerecorded messages encourage you to use their website which i tried unsuccessful. So back in the telephone queue to speak to person. 15 minutes later I am connected and the Aviva man tells me that know nothing about me (tried the usual postcode, date of birth, etc. I protested that Barclays account app shows deduction for Travel Pack, isn’t that enough? However the Aviva people are not allowed any access to account related info. One proposed solution was for me to call Barclays and get them to confirm with Aviva that I have Travel Pack, and for me to stay online while this goes on. Of course we did not succeed as I am already 51 minutes online by the time I get thru to Barclays listening to various prerecorded messages about how much easier it is to use website. At this point the line went dead and I gave up for another day. Reviewed on: 18th August 2021

Due to coronavirus we had to cut short our dream trip to Australia incurring a additional cost for change of flight and cancelled hotel reservation. Our claim was dealt with quickly and efficiently. We've had this policy for several years and have never had to claim before. Thoroughly recommend. Reviewed on: 14th August 2020

Its ok giving a 5* review.. Have you tried to claim?

Like others reviews I had my holiday cut short. We didn't claim on the cancelled flights as that's down to the airline. We only asked for the flight home and some out of pocket expenses. 4 months later still getting excuses! Have been paying monthly for 7 years and never had to claim before. I have everything with Barclays and as a loyal customer I expected better! Reviewed on: 14th July 2020

Shocking

Basically the cover is not worth the paper it written on. Our holiday was cut short by 11 days due to Covid. Won't give us anything despite tour operator giving a letter saying they would not offer a refund. Waste of money. Reviewed on: 10th June 2020

DO NOT USE BARCLAYS INSURANCE

1
Do not trust Barclays - what a bunch of dodgy people. They have mislead me with travel insurance. I was of the fair belief that she was covered - this travel insurance policy I have held for several years, I pay for it monthly out of my pension. I feel like I have been taken advantage of and mislead - and they wonder why nobody trusts Banks and Insurance companies. I have today been informed (trapped in Australia due to the Corona Virus shutting down airlines), that my policy is not valid for my trip and I am (surprise) uninsured. I have tried to work through this with the phone support who is a 'computer says no' person and rather than working with me to identify a solution is quick to inform me that it is not their problem. I asked to be escalated, yes 'all managers are unavailable at the moment', I request to hold, then the line goes dead - or he hung up. So sad that a company that spends so much on clever marketing to convince us they care about their customers and to trust them, simply can't be trusted. Reviewed on: 25th March 2020
