Easy to open an account

I was a UK resident but not citizen recently arrived in the UK. I went to several banks to open an account but found them uninterested and unhelpful, except Barclays. Several years later I am still with them. Reviewed on: 15th February 2016

Barclays bank account

A simple straight forward bank (Current) account with no excessive charges. Ability to organise funds via mobile, PC and online. Aswell as personal and telephone facilities. Mobile app is excellent with fast (in most cases immediate) transfer of funds between banks and accounts. Reviewed on: 1st January 2016

High Quality Customer Service

When I visit my local branch, I receive a personal and efficient service. They always advice me how to use my money to it's full potential. When I visited with an important crisis once and needed to cancel my bank card they took sympathy and listened to my story and gave me a new card immediately. Simple and straigh forward

Me and my fiancé decided to open up an account together, we chose Barclays because he was already with them and I had banked with them in the past. The process was very straight forward, and was made simpler by the fact I had banked with them before! The staff member who opened up the account was very friendly and made sure to explain every step to use in detail. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Additions Account - Barclays Bank

I have a package account with Barclays that covers breakdown insurance with RAC. Phoned to see if this covers our trip to Brussels, as on the literature it says some European countries. Phoned correct number and asked the question, the operator did not know the answer and said he would pass me on to his supervisor. I was then cut-off, not very impressed. Honestly? I usually like Barclays, but their last service was so poor that I just don't want to use them again. I've had money missing, money not put back in after not receiving the correct amount at an ATM. Just ridiculous. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

The Now Modern But Traditional Bank

Having been set up with a Barclays account as a child, it's one I had stuck with over the years. In that time, they've grown a lot and improved on many areas of the customer service experience overall. I do find staff to be, generally, very helpful, polite and willing to assist. Our local branch has recently been renovated to include more technology so you needn't stand in a queue; for the most part, the technology, and the online banking system, works well. There are a few slips here and there, such as when something doesn't show up or a card gets rejected for no apparent reason, but it's mostly okay. The range of accounts is decent enough, but I don't find them helpful for long term customers. For instance, I was never advised I should have moved accounts when I was younger in to a more 'adult' account, nor was I advised there was a better account for me years later. You have to take the initiative as they don't seem to. I have had some issues where there have been mistakes on their part. For instance, a card getting cancelled because they thought my card had been compromised, just because I'd spent a little more than usual. Setting me up with a different account card than what I'd asked for. However, in terms of rectifying issues they have caused, for whatever reason, the turnaround is generally quite good. The other downside is the poor returns rate as a customer. No matter your loyalty, the interest rates are low, next to nothing really, which isn't all that uncommon at the moment, but it's disheartening. All in all, it's so-so; one I'd have a little more faith in over others perhaps in terms of stability, easy to deal with and up to date, but certainly not the best returns you could get or flawless. Long queus only one branch in town

Very long queues in branch. Branch not located well for parking or ease of access however online and mobile banking works well. Reviewed on: 14th December 2015
